Guest guest
Yes, you can jump right in. I would build up gradually with a kid who can't give you good feedback on possible detox symptoms. (It is harder when you have to read the tea leaves.)I regret to inform you that the patch test is not all that helpful. (Fortunately, it is not all that necessary, either. You aren't going to poison yourselves at the dosages we talk about here.) While it is true that the stain will persist longer as you become more saturated with iodine, it is not true that that is a valid test. Iodine evaporates off the skin ( & probably faster, if you are using the tincture with alchohol?) so it is subject to variations in humidity. And even among people who advocate the patch test, nobody can agree on how big a patch to use, or how long it has to persist for you to be saturated. (If you Google it, you will find a WIDE range of parameters. Since they disagree so much, how could you choose one as valid?)Regular old Lugol's is what you want (or Iodoral caplets); a lot of other iodine products have been discussed. They usually provide too little iodine, are much more expensive, or both. (I'm not familiar with that one.)My son is older (24) & has Asperger's. I feel like we have had some gains, but I am keeping him on 50 mg for the moment. He refuses to give me good feedback on symptoms (keeps telling me that how he feels is irrelevent. Well, not to ME, turkey!) so I am being cautious. I had him up higher for a while, & may take him up higher again. He is really wildly up & down, no matter what we do, so I'm afraid I can't give you any dramatic testimonials. (It seems to be harder to get a lot of movement with the older & higher-functioning kids.) I know that *I* feel better, & I am at about a quarter to Asperger's myself. But I also have other issues, so I haven't had a miracle (yet) either. Progress, not perfection, right?AnneOn Feb 16, 2011, at 12:16 PM, wrote: Hello! I have looked over much of the info in the files. I came to this site from an autism group, after several moms and dads stated they were giving their kids lugol's. Do I have to do a load test or can I jump right in and supplement? My son is nearly 6. I'm sure he is deficient, for how could he not be? My hubby is bringing home some iodine (the kind in alcohol) tonight so I will do a patch test on my whole family. Also, I ordered some de-atomized (I think that's what it is) iodine called Nutriodine. It was expensive, and I see here that no one mentioned that one. Should I return it and get some regular old iodine like Lugol's? If anyone with a child with autism has successfully treated him/her with iodine, I'd love to hear their story. We do all kinds of biomedical treatment except chelation. We use Enhansa as a gentle chelator/antiviral, MB12 shots, all kinds of minerals and aminos. We've had success with all of these, but always are looking for "the one." Thanks! R
Guest guest
, yes, return the " de-atomized " -- it's expensive and doesn't have much iodine in it. You want Lugol's. Here is the link to the best value I have found. You can also buy the crystals from this seller and make your own, but I strongly suggest starting off by buying some of the premade so you can get started right away and get organized. http://cgi.ebay.com/Lugols-solution-4-fl-oz-2-2-iodine-/320494213873?pt=LH_Defau\ ltDomain_0 & hash=item4a9ef19af1 The benefit of making my own has been that I now have 12 ounces of 5% Lugol's, which means I only have to take 8 drops to get 50mg, and it will last me a long time. As others have mentioned, the patch test is not definitive. And paying for lab tests is not necessary, for the two reasons already stated. Almost everyone is deficient, and anyone with the symptoms of deficiency is deficient, and those on the autism spectrum have the symptoms. And two, any extra iodine will simply pass harmlessly out of the body. fwiw, I believe I am an Asperger's, though undiagnosed. Since I began the iodine protocol, I have been able to apply my attention span better/more practically or under better control to what needs to be done. This was not something I was looking for or expected, but it is very real. I believe that I continue to improve in my ability to work with my positives and negatives. Don't forget to get yourself and the rest of your family on the iodine protocol as well. -- moderator, Iodine list At 01:41 AM 2/17/2011, you wrote: >Yes, you can jump right in.
