Adrienne,

Even when I was taking Iodoral I still took some Lugol's each day because

the stomach mucusa does absorb iodine directly from the stomach contents

(this is just my choice, it is not an official part of the

protocol). However, you do not need to have an empty stomach for this to

occur. In general it is better to take the iodine with food. If you are

happy with your routine, it's ok, but just so you know an empty stomach is

not a requirement.

I am absolutely certain that we are protecting our stomachs by

supplementing with iodine.

I Heart My Lugol's...

I just want to say that I am very happy taking Lugol's 5%, and while I'm only on 25 mg/4 drops (and feel great), I take it on an empty stomach with no problems. I follow a protocol somebody posted here--I mix it with a small amount of water, use a straw to avoid teeth staining, and follow it with more clear water. Then I set the timer for 30 minutes to allow the Lugol's to "bath the stomach mucosa" (I believe that's close to what I read in the protocol) and follow that up with my OJ, kefir, and supplements.

I get my Lugol's from J. Crow, very nice people; I don't have any particular problem with the taste either--I don't taste it at all, in fact, using the straw and following it with water.

So, for what it's worth, I love my Lugol's and my stomach upsets--what I used to think of as "food poisoning," which I got three times a year at least--have virtually disappeared since I've been taking it on an empty stomach (for more than a year now). My father had a stomach ulcer in his 50s (I'm 54) so I'm hoping that the Lugol's is also taking care of any predisposition I may have to ulcers, but I don't know...

Thanks for listening,

Adrienne in Texas
