Guest guest
But you didn't get a bromide level so that saturation level is more than likely not valid. That's why we recommend doing both. If you are having health issues such as hypothyroid you can probably assume that it isn't that high. You have also have had BC and every BC patient that Dr. B has tested has been high in Bromide. I am sorry but I think these results aren't very useful. It's not a complete picture. Buist, ND Iodine loading test - I received my 24 hr iodine loading test results from FFP labs today and was quite surprised. Range ml/24hrTotal Urine Vol: 2,200Post Loading: 49 >44 mg/24 hrPost Saturation 97 >90 % Total I haven't had my consult with Dr Flechas yet and I'm wondering if I should be asking specific questions because my saturation is so high?Am I taking too much iodine?I am also hypothyroid and was taking Synthroid since the age of 27, I'm 52 years old now. The Synthroid never really worked for me. I never knew there were alternatives until I got the BC and started reading about what I could do for myself to never have to go through that again. My Naturopath suggested I swith to natural dessicated thyroid and since taking it (about 8 months) I feel so much better. My problem is my Naturopath doesn't believe in iodine supplementing although he is humoring me and insists in having my TSH, Free T3 FreeT4 tested every 2-3 weeks. I have been taking 50mg of iodine for almost 1 year. After approx 6 months of taking 50mg's my TSH shot up to 28 and it is slowly coming down. Last test result 3 weeks ago came back at 23. I've given him numerous articles on iodine and I think I am slowly starting to get him turned around on his views. I have to add that he is also an MD and therefore he has to be diligent in his research before he starts writing scripts for his patients. My ONC (I had BC 2 years ago) insists I see an Endo because my TSH is so high and I have an app't tomorrow with this new Endo. I'm at odds because I know this new Endo is not going to understand why I'm taking the iodine - most of them just don't get it do they.... I'm wondering if I should even bother going to the appointment. I'm probably wasting my time and his.Steph, any insight as to my dosage or why it's taking my TSH so long to come down? What on earth can I tell this new Endo about iodine so he doesn't throw me out of his office!Terri
Guest guest
To address some of your other questions, Steph has posted in the past: >It is very common to have increases in TSH up to 75 for 6 mos after >starting iodine with no signs of hypothyroidism. Dr. Brownstein has >addressed this either in his book or a lecture. The body is doing this to >create more thyroglobulin in order to bind to the iodine to create more >thyroid hormone. This is a good thing. Remember that TSH is a pituitary >hormone and not a thyroid hormone and one of the many reasons why it is a >bad indicator of thyroid health. Further, yes, the ENDO is not going to do anything good for you. Since we know TSH rises with iodine supplementation, yet people feel a lot better, it's not appropriate to raise the thyroid hormone replacement levels. All the ENDO will tell you is a) stop the iodine and take more thyroid hormone. Neither is appropriate. The iodine is protecting your body from any recurrence of BC and prevention of any other ca. We on this frontier must learn to be self-validating because 99% of Western medicine is arrayed against iodine. Have you read the www.breastcancerchoice.org site? They are strong proponents of the iodine protocol. with best wishes, -- >But you didn't get a bromide level so that saturation level is more than >likely not valid.
