The active (metabolic) hormone is Free T3. You are still just barely above the bottom of the range. Your body does feel well initially but then it needs more and you must continue to increase until your symptoms subside. You will probably feel best in the upper 1/3 of the range. Do not watch TSH as it is a pituitary hormone and not thyroid hormone. If I remember correctly there are instructions on how to dose in the Armour package insert.

Help addressing T3 with doc?

Hi all,I'm still trying to understand all of the details and am looking for some advice. About 4 months ago, my alt doc tested my thyroid and found:Free T3 2.2 (2.3-4.2)Free T4 1.12 (.89-1.76)TSH 1.522 (.550-4.780)then she prescribed Armour (60mg). I started feeling better pretty quickly (e.g., more energy!)When I went back for more Armour (from what I gleaned from this site and how I was feeling), she seemed hesitant but did agreed to do my labs and found:Free T3 2.4 (2.3-4.2)Free T4 1.17 (.89-1.76)TSH .806 (.550-4.780)I'm going to call to follow up soon but I'd love some advice from the group. What should I be asking for? concerned about? Other testing?Thank you so much for your help,Anne

Boy you are quick - thank you for your feedback !

OK I will push for a higher dosage and retest in 90 days.

Hi all,

I just spoke with my alternative doc about my most recent bloodwork and am

looking for advice. My T3 went from 2.2 to 2.4 (with a range of 2.3-4.2) after

nearly 4 months of 60 mg Armour. From what I understand here, I should then be

taking more Armour. She insisted that the process was slow but with cajoling

agreed to increase my prescription to 75 mg and retest in 3 months.

My question is - isn't this too slow? Do I need to supplement with Lugol's?

I've got a nearly 9 mo old and am having a hard time figuring out how tired I

" should " feel, not to mention the brain fog. FWIW, I'm taking recommended

supplements.

Any advice or general thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Anne

Just being " in-range " isn't good enough. Mid-range or higher is best and

explained here: http://tiredthyroid.com/optimal-labs.html

You can tell a dosage's effectiveness within 3-4 weeks of changing the dose with

testing. 4 months is a long time at the same dose, but it may just be the way

she does it. I wouldn't hesitate to tell her that you don't feel well on it.

Most people feel best when their T3 is in upper third of the range. You may

find that by supplementing with iodine, you can increase the effectiveness. I

also would ask her to do a recheck in 3-4 weeks or at least 6 weeks. 3 more

months is too long.
