Guest guest
I received my 24 hr iodine loading test results from FFP labs today and was quite surprised. Range ml/24hr Total Urine Vol: 2,200 Post Loading: 49 >44 mg/24 hr Post Saturation 97 >90 % Total I haven't had my consult with Dr Flechas yet and I'm wondering if I should be asking specific questions because my saturation is so high? Am I taking too much iodine? I am also hypothyroid and was taking Synthroid since the age of 27, I'm 52 years old now. The Synthroid never really worked for me. I never knew there were alternatives until I got the BC and started reading about what I could do for myself to never have to go through that again. My Naturopath suggested I swith to natural dessicated thyroid and since taking it (about 8 months) I feel so much better. My problem is my Naturopath doesn't believe in iodine supplementing although he is humoring me and insists in having my TSH, Free T3 FreeT4 tested every 2-3 weeks. I have been taking 50mg of iodine for almost 1 year. After approx 6 months of taking 50mg's my TSH shot up to 28 and it is slowly coming down. Last test result 3 weeks ago came back at 23. I've given him numerous articles on iodine and I think I am slowly starting to get him turned around on his views. I have to add that he is also an MD and therefore he has to be diligent in his research before he starts writing scripts for his patients. My ONC (I had BC 2 years ago) insists I see an Endo because my TSH is so high and I have an app't tomorrow with this new Endo. I'm at odds because I know this new Endo is not going to understand why I'm taking the iodine - most of them just don't get it do they.... I'm wondering if I should even bother going to the appointment. I'm probably wasting my time and his. Steph, any insight as to my dosage or why it's taking my TSH so long to come down? What on earth can I tell this new Endo about iodine so he doesn't throw me out of his office! Terri
