Guest guest
Some people find that they can go off thyroid meds after they have been on iodine a while, but nobody here recommends stopping your thyroid meds before your thyroid has healed.AnneOn Feb 27, 2011, at 8:37 PM, gemdi55 wrote: oh I see thanks for answering so you cant use lugol's for being hypothyroid only as a supplement ? so Dr brownstein doesnt advise going off thyroid medication and using lugols right? > > Levothyroxine is a thyroid medication. Guest guest
Lugol's isn't a brand name. Its the name of a french scientist who figured out how to make it.Its the name of the solution, doesn't matter who makes it, or where you buy it.Only difference is the price, and quantity. Buy it a drugstore, or health food store, your going to be limited to 1/4 oz., and its going to cost $20-$30. Buy in on e-bay you can get a several oz. bottle for about $8, plus shipping. My bottles not marked, but its much more than 1/4 oz. On treating Hypo with iodine, vs treating with Thyroid hormone; When I was just starting out, I didn't understand about adrenal fatigue at all.I figured that since lack of iodine was the underlieng cause of my hypo, I would take the holistic approach, and treat the underling cause i.e. take iodine.I was adrenal fatigued, as a result of being Hypo.Taking the iodine made things worse, for me.The detox put further stress on my adrenals, at a time when they couldn't handle it. Think of it like this; your on a roadtrip, and you realise you made a wrong turn, 300 miles back and are on the wrong road.Would that you could push a button on your dash marked re-do, and instantly go back 301 miles, so you could make the correct turn, and get on coarse. Can't, of coarse.Have to turn around and go back, in reverse order; Treat the adrenal fatigue, then the hypo, then the underlieing cause, the iodine.Thats the way it was, for me. Actually, first thing you have to do, (just my opinion, and free advice is worth what you pay for it) is look at a map.i.e. do a thourough assesment of where you are? Are you adrenal fatigued, and if so, how severe?Read up and learn a lot more about adrenal fatigue, hypothyroidism and iodine.A good place to start would be to start charting your temps; it gives you a road map so you KNOW where you are, and as you treat, it helps you to know how your bodies responding to treatment. To just start taking iodine, without having a thorough idea of where you are is like getting lost on a road trip, and just saying " Well, " I'll just take THIS road, sooner or later it will get me where I'm going. " Probably WILL, eventually. You've stopped to ask for directions, thats a good first step. Now, get a map.Go to www.drrind.com, click on metabolic temperature chart instructions, and read/print.Somewhere in the 6 pages of text, there is a hi-lited words Temperature chart, that will go to the chart itself, print a couple of copies.Get a good thermometer, I use a B-D Basal digital thermometer.$9 @ amazon.com. A regular drug store digital isn't accurate enough, I tried 3 of them.Chart for at least a week or 2, and the chart will tell you if you are AF, Hypo or both.If you are AF, can do the home pupil test to detirmine if you are low in aldosterone as well as cortisol. Then, you can do more research on detirming the appropriate testing/treatment, depending on WHERE you are.Kind of like looking at the BIG map, to see the various routes you could take, that would get you to your destination.Just my 'advice'. Or, you could always be a Jimbo (rhymes with Dumbo). You could take iodine, which may agravate the adrenal fatigue. Then say o.k. well, then I'll take Thyroid hormone. Then, after several months learn a little about adrenal fatigue, and start treating that. Then, realise belatedly that your hypo was getting worse, because thyroid hormone can't get into the cells, without adequate levels of adrenal hormone, and iron, and so now you've got a reverse T3 situation you have to deal with.In other words drive around aimlessly lost.DON'T be a JIMBO.Trust me, short cuts make for long delays!! Guest guest
Iodine can be a huge key to healing adrenals and not everyone has adrenal problems. Just because one is hypothyroid does not mean they have adrenal issues. Address liver and detox issues to resolve RT3 problems.LinnOn Feb 28, 2011, at 9:17 AM, dutchdivco wrote: Lugol's isn't a brand name.
