Guest guest
The issue of how sick you should feel detoxing is always an interesting one.We know that if you feel sick with detox symptoms, salt loading can help neutralize the symptoms. You can define the symptoms as too much detox or not enough salt. If you had been detoxing better, you wouldn't have had the symptoms to start with. If you don't have bad detox symptoms, it could just be that your detox pathways are working really, really well. The symptoms happen when your detox pathways are overwhelmed. Detox symptoms are a good sign, insofar as you are getting rid of toxins, but a bad sign, insofar as they mean your pathways are not working at optimal level. If you have been eating well, taking supplements, & optimizing your detox pathways, it is entirely possible to detox without a lot of misery.Of course, sometimes you have detox that you don't recognize. For example, periodically, I get odd pains in my teeth -- serious enough to really bother me for a few days, but then stopping as quickly as they started. I always assumed that this presaged a new cavity or problem, but I am pretty careful about dental maintenance, & the teeth that have experienced transient pain never show up as having any issues when I go to the dentist. I have seen reports from some people on this list that they get tooth pain as a detox symptom. So was my transient dental pain a detox symptom? How would I know? It is possible that you had a detox symptom that you identified as something else entirely. If you look over the list of symptoms, some of them can easily be interpreted as having other causes. There is no prize for the one who feels sickest during detox. Detox is the goal, not feeling sick. But it is hard to measure detox, whereas you can really notice some of the symptoms -- sometimes. When we started taking iodine, our urine got cloudy & smelled strange. That is a sign of detox, too, but it doesn't "hurt." It just means that toxic stuff is flushing out in your urine, the way you want it to.Some very toxic people are probably going to suffer uncomfortable detox, no matter how careful they are. But it seems to me that the goal is to detox at a level your body can handle well. And maybe that is what you are doing?AnneOn Feb 23, 2011, at 7:47 AM, Deborah H wrote: I've been slowly taking iodine for almost a year now. I've been at 100 mgs for 5 months and I don't think I've experienced anything like break outs or rash. Could that mean that I haven't really pushed out the bromide yet? (For background: I began taking b/c of skin cancer, scary mammogram --suspicious looking cells...I've never been back, 2 yrs ago--, so I take to ward off breast cancer, history of candida, low thyroid, low D3, low ferritin. I've never taken a loading test. Also have mercury and lead toxicity--from blood level test. I take 60mg Armour, but feel fine on 30mg. I'm chelating on weekend, taking iodine protocol all the while. Also, I use celtic salt on food but never do the water/salt. I'd be willing but I have no symptoms.) I was just wondering if I should keep going up? I keep thinking I would feel something, or see something. Fact is, I just feel fine, but I still get yeasty after chelating, and still have a little activity around the squamous carcinoma scar (reddish, itchy). Did everyone experience bromide toxicity at some point? Shouldn't I? Thanks, Deborah
Guest guest
Breakouts or rash are an indication that one's detox pathways are not working well so the bromide comes out through the skin. This can generally be avoided by moderating the level of iodine and increasing the funtionality of the detox pathways, unless one has such an urgent health concern that one has to push to the limit. So I agree with Anne. Don't worry, just keep doing what you're doing! btw, many people take up to 250mg iodine/day for cancers, so you may want to try moving your dose even higher. -- >The issue of how sick you should feel detoxing is always an interesting one. > >We know that if you feel sick with detox symptoms, salt loading can help >neutralize the symptoms. Guest guest
Thanks, Anne. Now that I think about it, I have experienced cloudy urine. Maybe I will up the dose to 150 mgs for 3 months just to see if I can push out more, then I'll slowly go back down. I didn't mean to sound like I wanted some pain...not true! Not looking for that! I just really thought maybe it was a sign that the bromides were holding tight and the iodine was just passing through. It was very helpful to hear your 'talk'. Guest guest
Hi , I am new here and would like to know how one goes about optimizing their detox pathways. I have been on Lugol's about 3 weeks now. I'm up to about 30 mgs and want to go higher, but am starting to experience some slight acne. Thanks...Dianne > > > >> > >> > >>I've been slowly taking iodine for almost a year now. And, except for > >>maybe the first 3 months on 12.5, I don't think I've had any bromide > >>detox. Guest guest
Thanks , I also have fibro so have been worried about doing a strong detox at once. I also have ovarian cancer and did a six cycle chemo treatment which I now wish I had never done. It has totally destroyed me and has been the beginning of all my problems which fit hypo to a tee. Weight gain which will not budge, low temperatures, all over joint pain, mega fatique, the whole works. I have recently started on Essiac and will look into other herbs. Anyone that could chime in with any suggestions would be appreciated. Dianne > > > > > > > >> > > > >> > > > >>I've been slowly taking iodine for almost a year now. Guest guest
Thank you all for your input. I am taking about 1200mg of magnesium plus the other companion nutrients and milk thistle. I think I will also add the magnesium oil and look into all the other advice. This is such a wonderful group. Be well...Dianne > > > > > > > > > > > >> > > > > > >> > > > > > >>I've been slowly taking iodine for almost a year now. Guest guest
Just to jump back in quickly: thank you and Anne for the thoughtful responses. I will consider going up more on iodine. I thought I had pushed the limit at 100 mgs. But it makes sense to go even higher until I'm completely in the clear. Cheers, Deborah > > >Thanks , > > > > > >I also have fibro so have been worried about doing a strong detox at > > >once.
