Guest guest
Hi Group. I have Hashis (I take Levoxyl 125 mcg daily) and am interested in taking Iodoral. I ordered the 24 hour Iodine and Bromide test and just received the results, but I don't understand them. Here are the results: **24 Hour Urinary Halide Test Total Iodine Excreted: 43.4 mg (From 50mg loading dose Iodoral) % of Iodine Excreted: 87% **Total Bromide Excreted in 24 hours= 27.6 mg Would taking Iodoral 12.5 or 50 mg be beneficial for me or not? Thank you in advance:) ~ Teri
Guest guest
Thank you, baxrox:) I used Hakala. The endo I'm seeing wants me to see a naturopath for this. I will eventually, .. they are pretty expensive here. I did speak w/ a nice fellow at Hakala and was told generally that doctors like to start their pts. on 12.5 and work their way up. I'm thinking I want to go ahead and do 12.5 of Iodoral twice a day for 3 months, then scale down to 12.5 per day and at the end of 6 months retake the tests to see where I'm at. Hopefully, will share her thoughts when she returns:) > > > > Hi Group. I have Hashis (I take Levoxyl 125 mcg daily) and am interested in taking Iodoral. Guest guest
I know nothing about this Dr, but I like his thinking on hashi's; Thyroid Inflammation: Cause of or Caused by Hashimotos posted by Dr. Haskell on 26 Feb 2011 at 3:52 pm One statement in this article, 'an antibody that attacks the thyroid gland resulting in inflammation' is a very common misunderstanding among physicians. Yes, it is called Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, yet this thyroid inflammation came before the patient's condition progressed to this auto-immune illness. To think that the white cells of our own immune system attack our thyroid gland, like some piranhas in a Tarzan movie, goes against our body's innate wisdom and intelligence. We know that inflammation speeds up the metabolism of cells causing premature aging, and thyroid cells are no different. And when chronically inflamed thyroid cells meet their maker, they break apart, releasing thyroglobulin and thyroperoxidase into the surrounding tissues. Then our immune system is triggered and antibodies are produced. Why do physicians think that a high percentage of people with Subclinical Hypothyroidism (SCH) develop Hashimotos? It's close to 50%. It's because with SCH the rate of apoptosis or cell death of thyroid cells rapidly advances and their antibodies rise as a result. I have never had a patient who did not have some levels of TPO antibodies and this is because we all turn over thyroid cells, releasing this enzyme and protein. So let's look towards the cause of thyroid inflammation and address that when it comes to Hashimotos and not think that our only solution is a thyroid medication, as well as others to treat the varied physical and psychological symptoms of Hashimotos. Guest guest
I saw slip in a quick post recently and because your original question about your tests results is kinda buried in this thread I suggest that you create a brand new post addressed to with the 24 Hour Urinary Test Results included. I cannot remember if the other moderators have had the test themselves, I would imagine that if they could answer you definitively they would have by now. As I mentioned earlier I have zero experience with the Halides testing and I am curious if the build up to a dose and then scaling back down was a suggestion from Hakala or just something you are thinking of doing? Since I have been on the forum I haven't seen many posts from people who have actually done the testing (or I haven't paid a lot of attention...) so this just made me curious. > > > > > > Hi Group. Guest guest
Hi, . The taking 50 per day x 3 months and then scaling down to 25mg from then on out was what the fellow at Hakala told me is what doctors " generally " have their pts. do. He said to try the 50mg for 3 months, then only 25mg per day for another 3 months and to retake the iodine/bromide 24 hour test to see where I'm at. The thing with me is, I really don't have any of the symptoms I read about. I'm having a very hard time losing weight (which I thought was because of pregnancy, only to find out my metabolism was shot from being overmedicated with Synthroid). I became interested in iodine after joining a group for folks that take natural thyroid vs. synthetic meds, and someone there suggested I join this group as well. I'm glad I did, otherwise I would have never known about the bromide in my system. I'll post something for now. Thank you:) > > > > > > > > > > Hi Group.
