could you tell me more about the enzyms (sp) you are using

We use either Kirkman Labs Enzyme Complete with DPP-IV or Huston's Enzymes, most enzyme formulas work well if they have adequate amounts of enzymes per unit as listed. I always use multi enzyme formulas which is so helpful to the entire digestive system. I have a few links where you can see the information for each.

Here is info on that webpage page.

EnZym-Complete/DPP-IVâ„¢Comprehensive Broad Spectrum Digestive Enzyme Formulation To Support Optimal DigestionEnZym-Complete/DPP-IVâ„¢ is Kirkman Laboratories highest strength multi-spectrum digestive enzyme formulation designed to provide maximal digestive activity for the fullest range of foods. This formulation is a unique blend of 19 pure plant based enzymes recognized as essential for the effective digestion of all food groups including proteins, carbohydrates, fats, sugars and fiber, under a wide range of pH conditions. The addition of the Dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) enzyme analog supports the ability of the body to degrade peptides formed from exposure to casein and gluten. EnZym-Complete/DPP-IVâ„¢ provides a comprehensive "foundation" of supplemental enzymes to support optimal digestion. Each enzyme works independently but also in a complementary role to optimally impact digestion of all dietary components. The EnZym-Complete/DPP-IVâ„¢ formulation provides a combination of proteases, amylases, lipases, disaccharides and cellulases to replace the enzymes lost in cooking and lessen the burden on the body's digestive tract so that it can function more optimally as well as support optimal nutrient absorption.

Ingredients:

Ingredients:

DPP-IV 50,000 HUTThe EnZym-Complete with DPP-IVâ„¢ offers the highest potency proteolytic enzyme formulation with significant peptidase and protease activity. One remarkable peptidase, in this formulation, is a specialized DPP-IV enzyme providing optimal ability to effectively degrade casein and gluten peptides. Dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) is a type of proline peptidase enzyme that is commonly located on the epithelial brush boarders of the small intestine (specifically imbedded in the mucosal membrane of the lining of the intestinal tract). Comprehensive Protease/Peptides Enzymes (Digestion of Proteins)Proteases have the role of digesting large protein chains (called polypeptides) into smaller amino acid chains and eventually into single amino acids. The protease enzymes have a critical role of breaking down potentially antigenic constituents of foods as well as reactive peptides (casomorphin from milk and gluteomorphin/gliadorphin from wheat and other gluten grains) that can trigger a cascade of adverse reactions in the central nervous system and throughout the body. The full spectrum of different proteases in EnZym-Complete with DPP-IV provides the most comprehensive digestion of proteins. Protein and peptides are complex and require multiple proteolytic enzymes to optimize their digestion. This formulation utilizes the broadest range of proteases that will have the most significant impact in breaking apart the proteins most effectively. The reason that numerous proteases are used is because each one has a unique ability to target and attach to the sites on the protein where they will be cut or broken down into their individual amino acids. EnZym-Complete with DPP-IVâ„¢ has a more "balanced" profile of peptidase activity meaning that it breaks the peptide bonds at the end as well as in the middle of the casein and gluten peptide molecule. This allows the activity of hydrolysis to be more equal and have the most comprehensive/complete breakdown/digestion of the proteins/peptides. Some formulations will use a large amount of one or two proteases to do the job of protein digestion however using numerous proteases offers optimal function and a broader spectrum of activity. The proteases /peptidase enzymes in this formulation also exert DPP-IV activity which contributes to its broad range of activity. The following proteolytic enzymes are utilized in this formulation.

Protease ..................................................................38,000 DAPU

(from Vegetable Pancreatin 4X/NF)**

Alkaline Protease....................................................50 DAPU

FP 31 Protease........................................................100 HU

AFP (acid Fast/Stable Protease)............................100 SAPU

Unique to this formulation are "alkaline" and "acid-fast/stable" protease enzymes that have a longer range of activity as well as stability when foods are exposed to the presence of acids in the stomach as well as the more alkaline environment in the small intestine.

Specialty ProteasesBromelain (Pineapple source)...................................100 BTU (1,280,000 FCCPU)

Papain (Sulfite-free Papaya source)........................2,000,000 FCCPU

The Bromelain and Papain proteases are clearly recognized and researched for their ability to have excellent proteolytic/peptidase activity in effectively and safely breaking down casein and gluten. Some research suggests that the bromelain has wider specifics and functions than papain as it has been demonstrated to also be an effective anti-inflammatory. Thebromelain is derived from a purified pineapple extract and the papain from a papaya source. Each of these enzymes has been shown to be exceedingly safe and well tolerated digestive enzymes.

The EnZym-Complete with DPP-IV formulation utilizes a "sulfite-free" papain extract that is of the highest quality and purity available. Other enzyme formulations may not use this pure extract because of the noted cost difference in comparison to standard papain extracts, which are known to contain sulfite as a stabilizer. All the papain in EnZym-Complete with DPP-IV is sulfite-free not just a small portion of it. Carbohydrolytic Enzymes (Digestion of Carbohydrates and Sugars)

EnZym-Complete with DPP-IV offers the broadest spectrum and highest potency carbohydrolytic enzymes which function in digestion of a wide variety of carbohydrates and sugars.

Amylase..................................................89,000 MWU(from Vegetable Pancreatin 4X/NF)**Alpha Amylase.......................................100 SKBU

Glucoamylase.........................................30 AGU

Amylases play an important role in breaking down starches and other carbohydrates into simple sugars (glucose) for use as an energy source for the body. The amylase enzymes reduce large carbohydrates (starches and other polysaccharides) to disaccharides, which include sucrose, maltose and lactose. These enzymes function together to optimize the breakdown and release of glucose from complex carbohydrates as well as starch, polysaccharides and dextrin which can effectively break down corn, potato, wheat, sorghum, cassava and other starches.

Alpha-Galactosidase..................................125 AGSU

Alpha-Galactosidase improves the ability to digest beans, other legumes and cruciferous vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, etc.).

Lactase.....................................................1000 LAU

Maltase.....................................................200 MWU

Invertase (Sucrase)...................................400 SU

The dose of the lactase enzyme, in this formulation, is adequate to digest the amount of lactose found in one glass of milk. Digests maltose disaacharides (Malt) found in a number of processed foods. The invertase (also known as sucrase) breaks down of sucrose disaacharides (commonly from beet and cane sugar which is known as invert or table sugar).Cellulase Enzymes (Digestion of Vegetable Fiber)

Cellulase.......................................................200 CU

Phytase.......................................................10 PUXylanase.....................................................100 XU(Hemicellulase)

The Cellulases (which are not generally found in the body's digestive tract) break down the bonds found in vegetable fibers and allows more complete digestion of grains, cellulose and plan gums. Cellulase functions by disrupting the structure of the fiber membrane (which is an integral part and which envelops most of the nutrients in plants) thus increasing the nutritional value of fruits, vegetables and grains.Xylanase also known as hemicellulase functions by providing more complete breakdown/digestion of dietary fiber and carbohydrates found in foods such as cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc.) and legumes.Phytase, an enzyme with exceptional qualities, is utilized for its ability to digest phytic acid (inositol hexakisphosphate), which is present in plants such as wheat, corn, rye, barley, beans, soybean, etc. Phytic acid can negatively affect the absorption of minerals such as calcium, zinc, copper, manganese iron and magnesium. The use of the phytase enzyme, in this formulation, will facilitate the break down of phytic acid and ultimately result in greater bioavailability of these important minerals.Lipolytic Enzymes (Digestion of Fats)

Lipase.....................................................15,000 LU

(from vegetable pancreatin 4x/NF)**

The Lipases digest -hydrolyzes fats, oils and butter (called triglycerides) into free fatty acids and monoglycerides. Fats are known as a sources of important nutrients (Vitamin A and E as well as omega-3 fatty acids) and they have are known to possess anti-inflammatory functions as well as a role as regulators of neurological activity (Omega 3, DHA, EPA) and thus need to be adequately digested. With the assistance of lipase enzymes they can more effectively perform their appropriate functions and crucial activities.Other Ingredients: The potencies expressed in this enzyme blend are all authorized compendial methods of measuring and expressing enzyme activity that have undergone scientifically sound development and validation procedures, recognized by the Enzyme Technical Association. Some of these measurements are expressed in FCC units and others are expressed in newer technological and more definitive characterization of activity, recognized by the ETA as equally acceptable units of activity. The potencies for these enzymes are expressed in the enzyme industries most current FDA recognized standard for determining the activity of enzymes. The Vegetable Pancreatin in this formulation contains lipase, amylase and protease enzymes that are recognized to be four times the strength of a regular animal derived Pancreatin (porcine and/or bovine) enzyme. The vegetable/plant-based enzymes work over a longer period of time, in a broader pH range and they actively function throughout the entire intestinal tract.
