Guest guest
Lugol's arrived on Tuesday. Here is what I am doing at the moment for Seneca, our dog with mammary tumors: I am putting 3 drops in her water every time I fill her dish. We have two cats and three dogs drinking out of her dish at the moment and the dish has a 2 cup capacity. So I am filling it probably 8 times per day - so 24 drops among all of our animals. She probably drinks less water than either of the other two dogs. She is smaller (44 lbs.) and older (13 years). I have also " painted " her tumors by using the dropper to drop iodine on them and then spreading it with the side of the dropper. I have two bottles of Lugol's and have designated one to be used for topical use on Seneca only. The other bottle is for all other uses. When I put the iodine on her tumors, she inevitably licks it off. One tumor is probably 2 inches x 2 inches x 1.5 inches and the other is about 1 inch x .75 inch x 1/8 inch. She's getting many drops - probably 1/4 dropper externally. How often should I be putting the iodine on the tumors? Does having it on them even just a few minutes help at all? Should I get a collar to prevent her from licking them? Now for me. I've taken both Iodoral and Lugol's in the past. When I took Iodoral, I believe I took up to 50 mg and had no problems. Cost became an issue, though and I didn't take it for a while. When I started up again, I switched to Lugol's for cost purposes. I don't remember how much I was taking but I built up from 5 mg to probably 15 or 17.5 mg. While doing this, I also started taking some supplements my doctor told me to take. I began having anxiety attacks and experiencing air hunger frequently, even awakening from a sound sleep to both of them. I stopped the supplements and experienced an improvement in the problems but not a complete resolution. When I stopped the Lugol's the air hunger and panic attacks ceased. I haven't taken it since although I experienced improvement in a chronic congestion/accumulation of gunk in my throat while taking the Lugol's (I didn't notice this improvement while taking Iodoral although I was taking more Iodoral than Lugol's). I started taking Lugol's again when I got the new bottle on Tuesday. Only two drops per day for now. I'm going slowly and NOT adding anything else new until I've reached whatever dose I decide to build to. If side effects like those I had before develop, I will try to decrease and see if they resolve. I need it to work. The gunk in my throat is worse than ever and I'm pretty sure it's fungal (although when I've been prescribed diflucan for yeast infections it hasn't touched whatever's in my throat). Has anybody ever had the experience of side effects with one form of iodine but not the other? Any advice for me as to how to avoid experiencing them this time? Yes, I took all the companion supplements each time I've taken either Iodoral or Lugol's in the past and will be taking them this time, too.
