Guest guest
I personally would not continue to poke and radiate my body. Run some good labs: TSH Free T3 Free T4 TPO Ab Tg Ab Tg RT3 You should be able to tell if something is really wrong by looking at these and by how you feel. I am not a fan of these types of testing. I think they just mess with the body too much. Thyroid Cancer Screening Hey all,Kira in Oregon here. Question about screening and diagnostics. Given that most of us with hypo/Hashis have some combo of goiter/nodule/fibrous tissue, and that we've been told we probably all have slow-growing thyroid cancer cells, what kind of periodic screening do all of you get?Through the years, and before discovering this board, I had 3 thyroid biopsies by FNA, a couple of ultrasounds, several nuclear medicine scans and an MRI. I'm tempted to never get another FNA and never another nuc med scan--- only ultrasounds from now on, while implementing the full Iodine Protocol.Do we really want to go down the road of periodically getting needled(with the incumbent trauma to the tissue and emotional distress involved), followed by radioactive imaging? What do you all do/think?KS
Guest guest
Thanks for your considered opinion, . These are the labs we periodically run for me. BTW, seeing Meletis in three weeks! Guest guest
The best information about cancer screening I'm aware of is the work of Dr. Gilbert Welch of Dartmouth, as I said earlier. I can highly recommend both of his books: " Should I Be Tested For Cancer: Maybe Not and Here's Why " and " Overdiagnosed: Making People Sick in the Pursuit of Health. " Cancer screening, and the more general push for " early diagnosis, " have been hugely oversold. Thyroid cancer is one of the best examples, since the vast majority of thyroid cancers pose no risk, regardless of whether they are treated, or how they are treated; they are " pseudodisease " never destined to cause harm. A few are dangerous and and can kill. But almost everyone diagnosed suffers substantial harm from the testing and treatments even though only a very small percentage benefit. Each person must decide whether to subject themselves to these risks and harms in exchange for a small chance of being helped. I cannot recommend Dr. Welch's work highly enough for those who want to make a thoughtful and informed decision about such things. This applies to other cancers as well, and many other diseases, too.
