Guest guest
Dawn - Synthroid is a hormone - thyroxine. It is not interchangeable with Iodoral which is a nutrient. Some are able to reduce their thyroid hormone replacement, others stay the same. Some very rare cases are able to eliminate it completely. But if they are on a high dose then the odds of this happening are slim. The best thing to do is to get them on the Iodoral and supporting nutrients while still taking Synthroid and see how it goes. If they feel hyper then check with the doctor to reduce the dosage. Guest guest
Yes, I realize that Synthroid and Iodoral are two different things. She believes that she has had an adverse reaction to one of the generics of Synthroid (levothyroxine) - significant rash on her body, dizziness, heat sensitivity, and tremors in her hands. Her doctor doesn't believe her that it may be a reaction to the drug or the fillers in the drug even though the insert from the pharmacist lists these as side effects of the medication. She went to an MD that also has natural health training and he felt that she was still too hypo based on her TSH of 5.59 and increased her meds by another 75 mgs. Within a week her side effect symptoms were magnified tenfold. I asked her about requesting to be put on another generic that may have different fillers or be put on the name brand to see if that would make a difference. She is afraid of switching as her reaction has been so severe. She knows that I have never taken Synthroid but am using Iodoral and the supplemental nutrients to treat my hypo. Her desire is to switch to nourishing her thyroid and then using dessicated glandular to help rebuild it. I told her that I wasn't sure that she could just quit the synthroid cold turkey and then start the Iodoral, which is what brought about the question. Any additional info would be welcomed. I am relatively knew to the world of hypothyroid research and iodine. This is not my area of expertise. I have been trying to encourage her to try to find another doc from the one she is going to, but she is has become very jaded after feeling like no one is listening. Just trying to get her some good information so that she doesn't become a train wreck. Thanks, Dawn > > Dawn - > > Synthroid is a hormone - thyroxine. Guest guest
Ok, now I understand. She needs to tell the doctor that she wants to switch. Have the pharmacist contact the office if needed to enforce that her symptoms are issues with the drug. If she is seeing a doctor that does things naturally then she should be able to get Nature-throid which VERY few have issues with. There are no dyes as are in Synthroid. Notice that all the colors are filled with aluminum. That's just wrong. Aluminum is implicated in Alzheimers disease. Maybe one of the ingredients will trigger something. What dose is she on? Guest guest
>There are no dyes as are in Synthroid. Notice that all the colors are filled with aluminum. The 50 µg Levoxyl tabs contain no dyes, which is the reason my doc uses them, along with compounded, time release thyroid extract. (The small 50 µg size also allows fine titrating of the dose, which I often adjust by only one tab per week.) There is one additive in the Levoxyl which some people do seem to react poorly to. In those cases my doc has been using Tirosint to provide T4. Bill > > > > Dawn - > > > > Synthroid is a hormone - thyroxine. It is not interchangeable with Iodoral which is a nutrient.
