Guest guest
I'm sorry if you've answered this before Steph, but how did you decide what dose to give your children? I've just started my 10 year old on 12.5mgs a day. He hasn't had any tests but he gets very tired and doesn't sleep well and I'm thinking that if I was iodine-deficient for so long, he possibly is too. I didn't know what to start him on. Also, I'm giving him selenium but do you only give small amounts of selenium in you're on a low dose of iodine?I've put mine up to 125 mgs per day and wondered if I should increase my selenium intake so that I don't end up with an imbalance. I believe the thyroid gland holds 20 mgs of Iodine. Buist, ND Owner / Iodine Group
Guest guest
When they were 4 & 7 Dr. Brownstein started them on 6.25 mgs. When my daughter turned 6 and my son 8 we increased them to 12.5 mgs. Then we tested my son with an iodine loading test with bromide levels. His bromide was 45 (toxic is over 10) so it was at this point that we started to give him 25 mgs. He was 9 yrs old then. He has been on this since. I am contemplating upping my daughter to 25 mgs - she will be 9 in June. Both are very hypothyroid and on medicine. My hubby & I both had hashi's and I got thyroid cancer. I want to make sure they are getting enough. They take 100 mcg Se 3x per week.
