In that case Barbara Goldfarv Portnoff, M.A. CCC-SLP will be a great person to answer this question in person at CHERAB's August, 2001 meeting since she will be key speaker. If you check these pages http://www.promptinstitute.com/staff.html or http://www.promptinstitute.com/form2001.html you will see that Barbara is not only a PROMPT trained therapist, but she is also one of the therapists that trains other speech therapists in seminars on how to use the PROMPT method. Barbara was in the past also one of CHERAB's presenters for our May 2000 apraxia workshop, and she (as always) is wonderful. ______________________________________ For any professionals (or parents that have support sites) that post, please post your contact information and websites because parents want to know how to find you (and they send me emails asking me!) __________________________________________ Here is information about PROMPT from Barbara, who is one of the handful of people in the world who trains other professionals on PROMPT-and is also in private practice in NJ (who again will be the speaker for CHERAB's August, 2001 meeting) -
Guest guest
PROMPT is a speech therapy method successful in treating apraxic children. I don't have any personal experience with it although my son's SLP is going for training next month! Here is a quote from their WEB site www.promptinstitute.com. PROMPT, is a multidimensional, multi-sensory therapeutic system that is holistic and dynamic. PROMPT has often been recognized singularly for its use of tactile- kinesthetic articulatory prompts (cues) on the jaw, face and under the chin, that help to develop or restructure speech production output. In reality, PROMPT is about the dynamic way a child is viewed and treated. Depending on the nature of the delay or disorder this perspective may derive from normal child acquisition models of development or from models that stress maximizing the child's potential in spite of disordered or damaged systems. At first, the technique of prompting was recognized as " prompts for restructuring oral-muscular phonetic targets: PROMPT " and predictably focused on the " end product " (sounds) of speech production or, as PROMPT now refers to it, the " motor-phoneme " . However, it soon became apparent that PROMPT was much more involved and relied on a totally different conceptual basis than has been traditionally taught, for organizing and integrating information in the development of assessment and intervention strategies for speech and language. --- In @y..., " Stacey " <staceydaniel@m...> wrote: > > > What is a Prompt Therapist?
