Guest guest
On RadiationNetWork, the CPM has been in the range of about 18 to 34 over the past couple days. Seems pretty normal right now. -Ken > > FYI, on the blackcat monitering site our level in the Bay Area > just jumped from 11 to 16. > > I am not sure how significant that is but it has been hovering at 11 > for a few days now. > > I stood in the rain today, and enjoyed the end of its purity. > > I guess it is probably too late to vacation in Brazil? > > Ali >

Guest guest
I’m in Eastern PA – close to NJ/NY. It looks like we have high levels in our area. We have a lot of reactors not too far from us. It’s a little scary in light of what has happened in Japan. We are also not too far away from where three mile island occurred. Right now I am worried about relatives on the coast of California. Guest guest
You're speaking of increases not equal to 1/2 a bite-wing X-ray. An anomaly that small could be someone upwind of you with a glow-in-the-dark watch. Nothing's happening. Give your kids a kiss good-night and go to bed. Guest guest
Please note this disclaimer on the blackcat website: " Typical background radiation levels for most of the USA are in the 5 to 18 uR/hr range. Readings can be higher for brief periods of time due to normal variations in radiation levels. They can also be consistently higher for areas at high elevations, or with larger natural deposits of uranium, thorium, radon, etc. " Notice that the quote says typical background radiation levels for MOST of the USA... - not that a level over 18 is atypical everywhere. Clearly, a reading just over 18 is not cause for alarm. It's possible that the monitoring equipment needs to be recalibrated or there is some other logical explanation of the reading. The RadiationNetwork website has a reading of 30 for San Fran - well below their threshold of 130 for background radiation. I have seen it higher and lower in the past 24 hours.
