Guest guest
Hi Laurie, We have used home-based tutoring for our son and daughter for many years (since 2004 for our son and 2006 for our daughter). Their therapy sessions are done after school and on the weekends. Our son's program focuses on language, academics and memory. Our daughter works on social/emotional skills and motor skills. We have utilized a number of resources when hiring tutors. We have posted advertisements at local colleges, high schools, and in church bulletins. We have also utilized a number of electronic resources -- http://www.autismtutors.com/ http://www.abaconnections.com/ http://cleveland.craigslist.org/edu/ http://www.milestones.org/resources_jobs.htm Tutor costs vary. Typically tutors want anywhere from $8 to $20+ per hour. It depends on experience, location, and credentials. I'm sure others on the list have more to add; however, if you want to talk more, please feel free to email me off list at ddzlaw@.... I can also give you some ideas/suggestions on how to set up your program. Thanks. Debbie Z.
Guest guest
I think the majority of people use home-based tutors/ABA therapists. Schools are expensive and often very hard to get into. Also, if you are outside of a major city schools are less common. I would suggest getting recommendations from other parents re: reputable consultants in your area. To find tutors/therapists I would suggest looking into local universities. College students are ideal for this job. Psychology departments are ususally a good first place to try. In my experiences, psych departments usually help places families in need of therapists with students looking for a P/T job. Best of luck! > > Has anyone used home-based tutors for their kids?
