Guest guest
Hi, I have been reading through the posts and trying to gather as much info as I can in a short amount of time. I am currently taking Cytomel only as treatment for hypothyroidism - TSH is fully suppressed. Some information says this is sufficient to protect against radiation, other information says no. The more I read on here, the more I think I need to be incorporating iodine, not just for the radiation threat (I am on the west coast) but for long term health reasons. But for the moment I am concentrating on the immediate. Can someone on a full replacement dose of Cytomel take iodine? What are some of the potential problems. Because my thyroid is shutdown and not absorbing much iodine would I only need a small amount? We are waiting for some iodoral to arrive (not until Monday unfortunately). What we do have on hand is Iosol (iodine) and NOW Postassium plus Iodine (225mcg potassium Iodide,5mg sodium, 99mg potassium chloride, 100mg sodium alginate). Do we need to take both in order to get protective benefit? Do they need to be in a certain proportion to one another? How much of each (iodide and iodine)is needed? The rest of my family isn't on thyroid meds or taking any iodine. I am wondering, especially for the little ones, if they need to be eased into taking iodine? Also is it 200mcg selenium for adults taking iodine? How much selenium for children? Thank you so much for any help. I know how swamped you are especially right now. Guest guest
Hi, Thanks so much for your reply! I will check out Dr. Brownsteins blog and TLC product and s site for selenium amounts for children. I have read the New Member Document. In addition to the supplements listed and salt loading instructions is there a section on supporting the detox pathways or do those things do that? Yes, I am on t3 only to help with rt3 issues. It made a huge difference after the rt3 cleared and I'm nervous about going back on porcine thyroid and going back into rt3 mode. It would be great lower meds. I will keep reading around the site. From what I understand now, it doesn't matter what the form of iodine is for radiation protection -either potassium iodide or iodine or a combination product will work - but is more about what agrees with your body. I see a lot of people using the Lugols and Iodoral. Are you hearing success stories on plain potassium iodide and/or Iosol(iodine only)? Thanks again! > > > > Hi, > > > > I have been reading through the posts and trying to gather as much info as I can in a short amount of time.
