In other >words, can I use all three interchangeably or is SSKI specifically for > " radiation " while Lugols and Idoral are for daily supplementation? Answer 4) I have explained this several times in my posts. The thyroid uses potassium iodide (KI) directly, so the direct thyroid protectant is KI. The dosages of Lugol's/Iodoral that I recommended and have posted twice were chosen in order to get the full protective dose of KI. For daily supplementation, it is best to take Lugol's/Iodoral because the body uses both types of iodine directly. So since you have purchased SSKI, you can use that in the dosages recommended for protection from radiation (130mg for adults). >Sorry about all the questions:( I just needed some clarification though. Guest guest
Hi , To the best of my ability... Question 1) I understand that lugols is Liquid and Idoral is in pill form, but are they the SAME form of Iodine (i.e. potassium iodine verses some other form of iodine)? Answer 1) Yes. Iodoral is like " Lugols solution " in a pill form. But the ratio of iodine/potassium iodide in the two products is a little different. Iodoral contains potassium iodide and iodine, just like Lugols. Question 2) Is potassium Iodine the ONLY form of iodine that we should be supplementing with or are there other forms such as sodium iodine or calcium iodine? Answer 2) Potassium " Iodide " is the one recommended to protect your thyroid during nuclear problems. But iodine is used in other tissues of the body, as I understand it, and would also be benficial. Question 3) Understanding that SSKI is (super saturated potassium iodine), what is the main difference between SSKI and Lugol's and Idoral? Answer 3) SSKI is just potassium iodide. Lugols and Iodoral both contain iodine and potassium iodide. Question 4) As I understand it, SSKI is the version/type/form or Iodine that you want to offset the effects of radiation on the thyroid. However, will Lugols or Idoral work equally as well in this regards? In other words, can I use all three interchangeably or is SSKI specifically for " radiation " while Lugols and Idoral are for daily supplementation? Answer 4) Any one of these will work for protection of the thyroid during nuclear events. Potassium iodide (in MILLIgram doses) is the one the government says (since the early 1980's) will protect your thyroid from nuclear fallout. Dr. Browstein and others say that in addition to protecting the thyroid, you would want to take iodine (vs. iodide) to protect other tissues/organs that use this element. In short, take anything you can get your hands on. A combo product like Lugols or Iodoral would be best, but SSKI (potassium iodine) would be just good for a nuclear emergency, too. -Ken
