Sent this a couple of days ago, but haven't seen any replies . . . just wondering if there isn't someone on the list who might be able to help. Thanks, if you're out there!

New to all of this - what tests should I run?

I've been reading the list for a few months and trying to get up-to-speed , but this is my first post.

Prior to beginning the protocol, I would like to have testing run via my family doctor. I suspect that my thyroid is compromised (maybe Hashimotos?) and just would like to see where I stand prior to beginning treatment.

Recently, I saw a post from and it listed the following labs:

TSH

Free T3

Free T4

TPO Ab

Tg Ab

Tg

RT3

Questions:

1) Are there any other tests that I should request from my doctor or will this cover everything?

2) Are these tests ones which my Family doctor will be able to order from standard labs or are there only specific/specialty labs where they need to be run?

Thanks for helping,

Hi ,Sorry you got missed. Lots of posts right now.Yes, those are all the tests that will really tell the tale of your thyroid. And yes, he should be able to order them. But you might run into either his not wanting to order all of them, or they don’t order them standardly, so might tell you they can’t because they are not on their usual form. You might have to really persist to get the doctor to order them. Or you can order them yourself from other sources. I order from www.healthcheckusa.com. The prices there were much cheaper than the same tests done through Quest, only about a third of the price. I ordered the tests I wanted, went and had it drawn, received the test results in the mail, and then took them to the doctor with me. I only had one doctor appointment instead of two, and had all the tests I wanted to see at a much better price! You might want to have ferritin levels checked as well as D3 and B12. Most

people recommend having the sex hormones checked (not sure whether saliva or

serum levels are preferred) as well as adrenal (24 hour saliva cortisol test is

recommended for that).

The Natural Thyroid Hormone group might be a good group to join for specifically

thyroid-based questions. Or the Thyroidless group. You don't have to have had

a thyroidectomy to belong or to benefit from their wisdom.

Hi Donna,

From a fellow Illinoisan, God Bless you for taking the time to help me - I do truly appreciate this!

My doctor is pretty open-minded and cooperative, so I think she will be accommodating. But, if not, I appreciate the link!

With warm regards,

in IL :)

Good Morning Pamela,

Thank you so much for this additional information - I so much appreciate your help and I will add these tests to my list!

And thanks also for the other group suggestions - being so new to all of this, I certainly need as much info and help as I can find :)

I am looking forward to beginning the iodine protocol because I think it will really be beneficial for me. Hopefully someday I will be educated enough and able to help answer a question or two :)

With kind regards,
