Guest guest
I have never heard of this happening. What dose did you take? It is recommended that you take it before 1 pm so you do not have an issue with being awake. Maybe you have the flu? If you take 3 cups of water and 1 cup of brown rice and cook them til the water is murky then pour off the water add a bit of honey and drink it , it will stop the vomitting within 2 hours. Buist, ND Lugol's causing vomiting? I've never tried Lugol's before but have planned on doing so for some time and tried it tonight. I think that I've thrown up everything I ate for the last three months. I've read that it's best to take it internally but the vomiting was almost instant and didn't stop for hours. Is this normal? I took a reasonable amount, didn't down the bottle or anything. I think I'll try transdermal application from now on, but wonder if anybody else has had this reaction and what it might mean. Guest guest
Every time I take iodine I get violently ill with flu-like symptoms, almost immediately. (Vomiting, excruciating headache, fever, chills, diarrhea...you get the idea.) The first time I thought I had the flu. I tried it again and the exact same symptoms returned. I was taking all of the companion supplements and salt loading. After the third time, I began to realize that after a life time of " abuse " , my adrenal glands were shot. There was nothing left of them and they could not handle the iodine, it was stressing them out big time. I am now working to heal my adrenal glands before attempting to take iodine again. My suggestion would be to see if that is where your problem lies.Deb
Guest guest
Hi Rhonda, I am not a doctor but do have drug allergies. The one time I had vomiting as you described, it turned out I was violently allergic to ibuprophen. It started almost immediately after taking the medicine, then resulted in full body hives that lasted over a month. My doc theorized that my body knew I was allergic to the medicine and wanted to eject it as soon as possible... I'm not saying this is your issue but wanted you to be aware since, from what I've read in Brownstein's books, there is a tiny chance.....Good luck From: ladybugsandbees <ladybugsandbees@...>Subject: Re: Lugol's causing vomiting?iodine Date: Sunday, March 20, 2011, 6:52 AM I have never heard of this happening. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your replies. As soon as the vomiting stopped all my symptoms went away and I feel basically normal, except from a headache from staying up all night being sick. I don't know what to make of it. I took half the adult dose that's been discussed on here as being protective for radiation issues. The effect was basically immediate, with that awful tight feeling in my cheeks starting within seconds and vomiting within a minute or two, so no time for digestion or anything to set in. I know that allergies to this are rare, but I do tend to be a zebra medically. My adrenals aren't great but whose are nowadays? I'll have to consider doing more work on them first. I can't take iodoral tablets because I follow the SCD diet and don't want the added starch. If anybody knows of a source for pills that are SCD-legal please let me know. I'm not sure that's it though, since I've taken other liquid supplements, some rather nasty tasting, without issue. If I do try again I'll use a tiny amount transdermally and see what happens (staying close to the bathroom the whole time!). Rhonda
Guest guest
Rhonda, If you try the Lugol's transdermally (which is the only way I take it), you may get the best results by mixing it with a small amount of castor oil or coconut oil (or a mix of both). The oils will keep your skin from being irritated and they may prevent excessive evaporation. The coconut oil helps with a quicker absoprtion and the castor oil with deeper penetration. But whether or not you use any oil, I would recommend you avoid the abdominal area completely. The upper chest would be fine, or really any other part of the body, but I've found the digestive upset I got from internal use (though it was negligible compared to what you describe) was duplicated with the Lugol's on my stomach. Guest guest
I'll ask on the pecanbread group to see if Iodoral is SCD-legal. A lot of pills have coatings or other fillers, like gums, that are off limits. For now I'm going to see if transdermal application works better for me, and will try mixing with oils when I get my next shipment of coconut. Guest guest
Yes it is legal. No starch, no corn, no gluten, sugar, colors, etc. I just sent the link to the group. from IllinoisFrom: rhondacisneros <dotcisneros@...>iodine Sent: Sun, March 20, 2011 12:55:34 PMSubject: Re: Lugol's causing vomiting? Guest guest
Rhonda, Here are the ingredients of Iodoral. I don't really understand the "other ingredients" listed but they may be helpful for you to research. Ingredients: Total Iodine/Iodide .... 12.5 mg. Daily Value ... 8333%. Iodine... 5mg, Iodide... 7.5mg. - Other Ingredients: Micosolle, a silica-based excipient containing a non-ionic surfactant, microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable stearins and pharmaceutical glaze. From:  http://www.aviva.ca/shop/products.asp?itemid=3148 & catid=195#ixzz1HALTlD4o On 3/20/2011 11:03 AM, DeNormandie wrote:  Yes it is legal. Guest guest
Come to think of it, I did have nausea a couple times and I think I did vomit once or twice when I upgraded Lugol's to 60mg from about 25mg I'd been doing for a year or so. I assumed it was due to taking it on empty stomach as sometimes I'd get stomach cramps but I was so foggy I didn't pay close attention. I had a lot of other detox symptoms distracting me. When it happened it was intermittent and didn't always happen on an empty stomach. I just thought I overloaded with supplements which I've been used to taking for over 2 decades on empty stomach. However, it subsided when I took it after eating and being sure to do the 1/2 tsp of salt right afterwards and take the supplements for detox support. I've never been a fan of salt so I was resistant to it expecting a shocking strong salt flavor but was surprised at how quickly I adapted and the real salt (Redmonds) actually grew on me because it's not caustic tasting like old table salt. I began feeling like it was replenishing my body with the saline content it was supposed to have, if that makes sense. I've supplemented on iodine for over a year using the tablets from 1-thyroid.com Iodine plus, which I see now contain some of the co-supplements, then tried some other liquids because of the cost of the tablets, then I learned of Lugol's which I started early 2010 doing 5-7 drops, randomly. I never knew about detox symptoms but when I found the 50mg detox regimen and started on that in Oct of 2010, I began feeling them. I've also discovered an adrenal burnout issue so it may have had some relationship to that. My body temps ranged from 96.1 to 97.9 at any given time, never hitting 98.6. I started taking the salt loading much more seriously as my detox reactions became intense and made me wonder if I was in a thyroid storm or something. I never did the salt loading more than 3 times in one day and probably should have. It could have been the thing that allowed me to continue the higher level. The physical cold and energy low with the adrenal issues at that level for me became unbearable if I was to be productive in any way and I was in a position where I needed to be productive for survival. I don't think I ever drank enough water to flush them out now that I look back. I'd been reading so many conflicting opinions on adrenal issues with iodine therapy I was confused. I fell in love with epsom salt baths, I used epsom salt to make a scrub with essential oils and castor and mineral oil which was fun and appeals to my frugal side. I started mixing lugol's with coconut oil applying it from head to toe at bedtime, sleeping on my back and it would be completely absorbed by morning, no staining. I actually felt warmer when I did that. Between that and epsom baths my skin has never been softer. During detox I had random skin eruptions that produced nothing and hung around too long for my liking. They would go away when I applied coconut oil, lugols and magnesium salt (epsom salt crushed) in a paste. Pretty cool trick. I was really cold and tired when at the worst detox, falling asleep at random points during the day and resistant to sleep at night which I learned was a symptom of adrenal burnout, oddly. Although the cold and lethargy was lessened with the use of salt loading and cofactors I also had to increase my armour dose because the new formulation wasn't giving me what I had been used to,1.5 grains, and ultimately drop my iodine dose and pulse since then. Now I think I've got my perfect combination. I must have pushed enough toxin out because I'm feeling incredible now. So while the detox was hard, it was definitely worthwhile. I don't think I'm cleared of toxins yet completely but definitely some improvements have been made. If it hadn't been for some of the reaction I'd never known I have adrenal burnout. I definitely know I'm shedding toxins at least enough to have loaded up on some iodine because of my energy now. I'm addressing the adrenals which were overlooked by the doctor, and most of all, my brain clarity is almost back to top performance, I can multi task again and my energy has been off the chart high and I feel awesome! I'm able to be productive again and get more done than I've been able to in the last few years as I'd been trying to identify what my issues were that were taking me out of life. So, while the initial detox crud freaked me out and made me wonder if it was worth it with the severe lethargy, palpitations, cold body temps, and brain fog.. once I got on the salt loading with all the protocol supplements including ATP and other adrenal support.. I'm back and feeling better than ever. I didn't mean to bore anyone with this story but to encourage anyone going through it or feeling nervous about symptoms, there is light at the end of the tunnel and the detox protocol is instrumental to getting through the awful symptoms if you're having them. I feel so good I'm nearly expecting a crash, if you know what I mean. When you've felt so crummy for so long it's hard to wrap your mind around being well, or having a good day without a bad day coming. I'm believing this is the first part of an ongoing improvement in my energy and life force. Thanks to iodine therapy. Val
Guest guest
Iodine plus from Dr. in Texas, Women's Health , this is the first iodine product and explanation on it I was exposed to via internet search on thyroid. It was also what ultimately brought me to Lugol's. I used this for a year and never experienced any detox at 8 tablets a day. It was the cost that turned me to other sources. At the cheapest cost in bulk at $99 for 5 bottles of 60 tablets, 8 tablets a day for 50mg, and you're spending nearly $100 a month. This is why I had to seek another more economic source.
