Welcome Baukije - I cannot say for I am not a professional. But I did find some

information from a Dr. Flechas who gives iodine to his patients and this is what

he had to say:

Iodine deficiency may cause the ovaries to develop cysts , nodules and scar

tissue. At its worse this ovarian pathology is very similar to that of

polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). As of the writing of this article I have

five PCOS patients. The patients have successfully been brought under control

with the use of 50 mg of iodine per day. Control with these patients meaning

cysts are gone, periods every 28 days and type 2 diabetes mellitus under

control.

Ideally, all patients should have an iodine loading test prior to

orthoiodosupplementation. This test is one in which 50 mg of iodine is given

after discard of the first morning void. All urine is collected for the next 24

hours including the first morning urine void the next day. The urine sample is

then sent to my laboratory, FFP Laboratory for testing (21). The lab is a CLIA

approved high complexity testing laboratory in the state of North Carolina. The

testing that is done is using the method as described in previous articles . To

date we have done over 3,000 loading tests. Iodine therapy is then instituted

using 50 mg/day. The body becomes iodine sufficient in about three months.

Please be aware of the difference between micrograms (mcg) and milligrams (mg).

One milligram is equal to 1,000 micrograms. The majority of the loading tests

that are performed at FFP Lab are on women ages 31 – 70 years old. In 667

patients analyzed, the mean level of excretion was about 18 mg for all age

groups no patient achieved whole body sufficiency prior to

orthoiodosupplementation. The mean excretion drops, as the population gets older

(See Fig. 1-6). This suggests that of a total 50 mg of iodine given, the

patients on the average retained a mean of 32 mg into their body on the first go

around.

The information is here: http://www.optimox.com/pics/Iodine/IOD-10/IOD_10.htm

I an sure others will help you out who know more than I do. Good luck and Good

Health to you. My daughter also has PCOS, is hypothyroid, has Hashimoto's and

is gluten sensitive. She is on a small amount of Iodine now and will be going

up soon. :)

Hello Mzookiej,

Thanks so much for your reply!!

So a test would be necessary... I wonder where in Holland I could get such a test...

Thanks also for the artikel, I have read it before, I'm now taking almost 50 mg a day. How much is your daughter using?

So your daughter also has pcos and is hypothyroid. Is she taking Armour Thyriod? Hypothyroidism can also cause pcos like symptoms, did you know that? I'm beginning to wonder if maybe that's the case for me, because my androgens are normal and my FSH and LH ratio is 1:1, that's also normal... How is your daughters bloodwork?

I wish you and your daughter all the luck! And thanks again for your answer!

With love,

Baukje

Hi!

My daughter is on 12.5mg of Iodoral along with the supplements *selenium,

magnesium, vit c, and others. She is hypothyroid and Hashimoto's and has PCOS.

She is on Synthroid and Cytomel. We are trying to get her doctor to change her

to a natural medicine, but he has been reluctant to do so and we don't know why.

She just had blood work done and needs to make another appt with the doctor but

she is paying herself. She has no insurance. It is costing her quite a bit.

Thank you so much and I hope you get answers soon. Take care :)

Hi Barb!

Thanks again for your email!

12.5 mg iodine isn't that much, is it? I hope it will work for her!! (and me too :) ) I take Armour Thyriod and think it is the right choice for me, but it is expensive indeed!

No insurance... You life in America, I think? I have heard it is so expensive to pay the medical bills etc... It is not fair! I wish you and your daughter a healthy life! There is a lot you can do against pcos if you eat healthy food and cut on the carbs en no sugar! But it is hard work!

I wish you all the luck and health!

Love,

Baukje

Thank you so much Baukje for your kind words!

12.5mg is not much at all. She has a new appt with a new doctor and I hope

this one can help her with the Iodine and maybe a more natural thyroid hormone.

Medical visits and tests are very expensive. She does eat less carbs for she

must have gluten free and that too is expensive! She is excited to see this

new doctor and I hope he helps her.

Thanks again. I wish a healthy life for you, too!

Take care Baukje
