Guest guest
Tuna can have also soy in it when packed in cans or packages. Soy is not good for our thyroids either.May I suggest a gluten, dairy free diet? You'll notice a big improvement with feeling better digestively anyways. from IllinoisFrom: meandk0610 <meandk0610@...>iodine Sent: Sat, March 26, 2011 11:46:54 AMSubject: dairy causing thyroid pain & swelling then dump (sorry, long) i've stopped eating most dairy but did trial a little bit when we went out to eat and then went to a birthday party (milk in the bread/cupcakes). i have been diagnosed with hashimoto's based on thyroid enlargement and symptoms. blood results (tsh, t3/t4, antibodies) are within normal range. i also have fibromyalgia and can feel the swelling. the first time i got a little hyper (rapid heartbeat, jittery, a little sweaty) and the pain in my thyroid stayed on, intermittently, for a few days. then yesterday i had part of a cupcake and some tuna salad. major reaction! first came the pain and feeling of swelling, then a BIG panic attack sort of reaction followed by no more pain in my thyroid. i had to take 1/2 a xanax to settle the reaction and told a friend of mine that was there what was going on in case i had to call an ambulance. i was really scared. could the dairy be related to the thyroid? why would i get the swelling/pain and then what seems to be a dumping or reducing? i take a drop of lugol's several times a week and try to take the other supplements more frequently than i take the lugol's. i have been bad about the salt loading but have recently been taking a lot more celtic sea salt. i also am afraid of taking too much magnesium as i've developed cramping from that (too little calcium) without knowing what i was doing. that scared me too. sorry this is so long. i'm just tired of being afraid of my body and want to figure out what is going on. i did have 24-hr cortisol saliva testing done a few years ago and it did show adrenal fatigue. the endo i was seeing dismissed AF as not being real (she later put me on a low iodine diet and then said she hadn't when i told her my swelling was worse and an ultrasound showed nodules had developed on the more swollen side of my thyroid - i had the paper from her office to prove it so i have not been back to her). please let me know if any other information would be helpful. at this point i'm thinking that i need to up my detox a lot and stay away from dairy. it's frustrating because i've developed allergies to so many foods over the past few years. Guest guest
Magnesium does not cramp up the body. It is a very soothing in your bath and rubbing on yourself as with an oil and I also pop magnesium supplements. from IllinoisFrom: spacejunkie2001us <scastor@...>iodine Sent: Sat, March 26, 2011 1:08:05 PMSubject: Re: dairy causing thyroid pain & swelling then dump (sorry, long) *"i also am afraid of taking too much magnesium as i've developed cramping from that (too little calcium) without knowing what i was doing. that scared me too."* I'm not sure where you're getting this. Guest guest
Hello, (don't know your name, would be helpful if you tell us) Have you read the New Member doc. you were sent when you joined? If you didn’t save it, go to FILES the New Member Doc., read first, then read Commonly asked Questions. You say you are taking " a drop of Lugol's several times a week and try to take the other supplements more frequently than I take the Lugol's." That is hardly any iodine at all. Are you taking Natural Thyroid Hormone? I am trying to focus on what you are saying, but you seem to jump around a bit and am not really sure what your question is. If you think dairy could be giving you trouble, then cut it out of your diet for awhile and see how you feel. Gluten would also be good to stop as you say you felt bad after the cupcake (sugar also can and should be cut out. Try stevia as a sweetner) As for the magnesium, it will not cause cramping, as a matter of fact it relaxes the muscles and helps get rid of cramping. Again, I think you will gain much information that will be helpful to you if you read all you can in our site. Good luck to you. Guest guest
sorry. i read that it was the imbalance between the magnesium and calcium that would cause the cramps, not the magnesium itself. at the time that happened, i had been taking 600 mgs magnesium glycinate per day. sarah > > * " i also am afraid of taking too much magnesium > as i've developed cramping from that (too little calcium) without knowing what i > was doing. that scared me too. Guest guest
i read the new member do a long time ago. i guess i should re-read it. i've been as high as 2 drops per day on lugols and have trouble dealing with the detox. at that dose i had increased mucous and coughing and anxiety. since i already get panic attacks and have other medical issues, i get scared when the detox symptoms get noticeable and back off of the lugols when that happens. i am not taking any thyroid hormone. the endo i saw had me on low-dose synthroid and would not consider natural thyroid. even the low-dose synthroid kept kicking me hyper so, after cutting back and cutting back, my primary doc finally told me to just stop taking it. sarah ps. sorry for the jumping around. i worry a lot about my body and got really scared. my mind was all over the place. > > Hello, (don't know your name, would be helpful if you tell us) > Have you read the New Member doc. you were sent when you joined? Guest guest
I would go back to taking that daily and then up your potassium levels with a supplement or potassium rich foods. Now, I assume when you say cramping, you mean leg cramping or do you mean menstrual. If menstrual and it's at an odd time during the cycle that too can be a detox issue. The best way to tell if it is is to salt load. If the issue goes away, it's most likely detox. > > > > * " i also am afraid of taking too much magnesium > > as i've developed cramping from that (too little calcium) without knowing what i > > was doing. that scared me too. Guest guest
You may not have had a chance to read a post of mine within the last few weeks but it was about my high levels of anxiety and how they all went completely away when I started high doses of magnesium. You should consider going back on 600+mg of your glycate. Anxiety attacks are NOT normal and you can stop them. > > > > Hello, (don't know your name, would be helpful if you tell us) > > Have you read the New Member doc. you were sent when you joined? Guest guest
it was cramping in weird places - leg, belly, back. i'll try going back on the magnesium. yesterday, dd and i took a " mud bath " with about 2 cups of epsom salts and about 1/2 cup of bentonite clay. i had the tingling on my legs for a few minutes when we got in and then i felt a little better afterwards. i still noticed some pain/swelling in the thyroid area later on but that seems to be improved today also. sarah > > > > > > Hello, (don't know your name, would be helpful if you tell us) > > > Have you read the New Member doc. you were sent when you joined? Guest guest
I had really bad cramping/discomfort in my adrenal/kidney area and lower abdomen. I ended up determing it was due to detoxing as it would immediately disappear when I salted. > > > > > > > > Hello, (don't know your name, would be helpful if you tell us) > > > > Have you read the New Member doc. you were sent when you joined? Guest guest
I have experienced this feeling with LDN, low dose naltrexone. The feeling has passed as it did while still on iodine.I can feel only great effects with these two things in my life and it is great that I was able to discontinue 9 medications since I have been taking Iodoral and LDN. from IllinoisFrom: spacejunkie2001us <scastor@...>To: iodine Sent: Sun, March 27, 2011 12:36:42 PMSubject: Re: dairy causing thyroid pain & swelling then dump (sorry, long) I had really bad cramping/discomfort in my adrenal/kidney area and lower abdomen. I ended up determing it was due to detoxing as it would immediately disappear when I salted. > > > > > > > > Hello, (don't know your name, would be helpful if you tell us) > > > > Have you read the New Member doc. you were sent when you joined? That is hardly any iodine at all. Guest guest
Your symptoms describe me when I eat gluten (in bread/cupcakes). Dairy causes intestinal cramps and diarrhea in me. Did you feel better after going off dairy? ~Bonnie On Sat, Mar 26, 2011 at 9:46 AM, meandk0610 <meandk0610@...> wrote: > i've stopped eating most dairy but did trial a little bit when we went out to eat and then went to a birthday party (milk in the bread/cupcakes). i have been diagnosed with hashimoto's based on thyroid enlargement and symptoms. blood results (tsh, t3/t4, antibodies) are within normal range. i also have fibromyalgia and can feel the swelling. > > the first time i got a little hyper (rapid heartbeat, jittery, a little sweaty) and the pain in my thyroid stayed on, intermittently, for a few days. then yesterday i had part of a cupcake and some tuna salad. major reaction! first came the pain and feeling of swelling, then a BIG panic attack sort of reaction followed by no more pain in my thyroid. i had to take 1/2 a xanax to settle the reaction and told a friend of mine that was there what was going on in case i had to call an ambulance. i was really scared. Guest guest
This also could have been a blood sugar reaction. Eating sugary items can cause this. Guest guest
i don't typically eat things that have grains or a lot of sugar so i never thought about maybe also reacting to the gluten. the only bread-like thing that i've had in a month before this was Udi's dairy-free, gluten-free rice bread so maybe the gluten is something to consider also. thanks everyone! sarah > > i've stopped eating most dairy but did trial a little bit when we went out to eat and then went to a birthday party (milk in the bread/cupcakes). i have been diagnosed with hashimoto's based on thyroid enlargement and symptoms. blood results (tsh, t3/t4, antibodies) are within normal range. i also have fibromyalgia and can feel the swelling. > > > > the first time i got a little hyper (rapid heartbeat, jittery, a little sweaty) and the pain in my thyroid stayed on, intermittently, for a few days. then yesterday i had part of a cupcake and some tuna salad. major reaction! first came the pain and feeling of swelling, then a BIG panic attack sort of reaction followed by no more pain in my thyroid. i had to take 1/2 a xanax to settle the reaction and told a friend of mine that was there what was going on in case i had to call an ambulance. i was really scared. >
Guest guest
Gluten is in everything. Canned soups, gravies, processed foods in boxes, fast foods, restaurants, spices, etc. It is a well hidden ingredient. The safest way to avoid it is to eat whole foods. from IllinoisFrom: meandk0610 <meandk0610@...>iodine Sent: Mon, March 28, 2011 5:19:04 PMSubject: Re: dairy causing thyroid pain & swelling then dump (sorry, long) i don't typically eat things that have grains or a lot of sugar so i never thought about maybe also reacting to the gluten. the only bread-like thing that i've had in a month before this was Udi's dairy-free, gluten-free rice bread so maybe the gluten is something to consider also. thanks everyone! sarah > > i've stopped eating most dairy but did trial a little bit when we went out to eat and then went to a birthday party (milk in the bread/cupcakes). i have been diagnosed with hashimoto's based on thyroid enlargement and symptoms. blood results (tsh, t3/t4, antibodies) are within normal range. i also have fibromyalgia and can feel the swelling. > > > > the first time i got a little hyper (rapid heartbeat, jittery, a little sweaty) and the pain in my thyroid stayed on, intermittently, for a few days. then yesterday i had part of a cupcake and some tuna salad. major reaction! first came the pain and feeling of swelling, then a BIG panic attack sort of reaction followed by no more pain in my thyroid. i had to take 1/2 a xanax to settle the reaction and told a friend of mine that was there what was going on in case i had to call an ambulance. i was really scared. >
