Guest guest
You should not go off your thyroid medication. Taking iodine is not a guarantee that you will not need it. Iodoral is the pill form of the Lugol's formula (iodine / potassium iodide). Some feel better on Iodoral as it gets lower in the gut for absorption. Lugol's liquid is cheaper to take. Steph Starting Lugols this week Can I go right off my thyroid medication and start Lugols or do I need towean myself off? I am so excited to start on the iodine this week! Also, Isee Iodoral and Lugols mentioned. Does one seem to work better than theother? Thank you!Lori
Guest guest
Thank you Steph. I really wasn't certain what to do. I am taking Levoxil, but hope to switch over to a natural thyroid shortly. I found a holistic doctor here in PA. Where can I purchase Iodoral? I purchased the Lugols through Swansons. Guest guest
www.breastcancerchoices.org seems to have the best prices - especially when you purchase multiple bottles. Lynne Farrow is a friend of mine (owner of the site) and they are a non-profit. The proceeds form the sale go toward reasearching the effectiveness in using iodine in breast cancer. www.vrp.com www.illnessisoptional.com www.luckyvitamin.com Starting Lugols this week Can I go right off my thyroid medication and start Lugols or do I need towean myself off? Guest guest
Yes, Lori, stay with your thyroid meds. Only if you find yourself with truly hypErthyroid symptoms should you think about reducing your meds. (Occasionally people will have an extra-revved-up-day on iodine, or have a passing heart palpitation, and reduce their meds. That is just setting yourself up for bouncing around and not stabilizing your health. I did this to myself. Ultimately, I am taking more of the NatureThroid than I was, because the iodine helped me enough I began to understand what was possible. But, my thyroid doctor goes by symptoms on treatment, so I was able to ask for an increase with no hassle. (I had developed a rind of hard skin on my heels, which is a classic hypothyroid symptom, and when I increased my dose the rind of skin eventually went away.) I think it's better for people to just look forward to feeling better than to be attached to stopping their meds. I'm fine with taking the meds (I take NatureThroid after 6 or 7 years on Synthroid and the generic), as long as I can also feel ok. It would be nice to be able to stop, but my objective is quality of life. The iodine makes the thyroid meds work so much better in the body. I have so much more energy anymore. Of course, I also grow my own salad and cooking greens in the garden and I know that helps. High level nutrition is so important, and that is all the iodine protocol is. -- At 07:27 PM 1/15/2011, you wrote: >Thank you Steph. I really wasn't certain what to do. Guest guest
Hi Lori-- I miscommunicated. It was raising my thyroid meds that made the heel rind go away. I was relating the new symptom that made me (and my doc) know raising it would be a good idea, and it's been highly beneficial. I'm pretty sure it was the thyroid meds that fixed the heel rind, but, remember that iodine makes the thyroid meds work better. And then the point would be, it's possible to be rid of the heel rind that is a symptom of hypothyroid, if the hypoT is properly treated, which means (in my experience) natural thyroid supplementation and the iodine protocol. -- >Thank you ! > >You mentioned your heels - mine have been awful for years!! Guest guest
If it helps at all Some people do not consider replacing necessary hormones as " meds " because they're just putting back what should have already been there. In other words, your body might be short on producing T3 or cortisol. It is never short on producing Prozac. Iodine, at least appears in the food chain (or should). Again, Prozac does not. So you may wish not to think of your thyroid hormone replacement as a med. Just a thought. Jaye > > > >Thank you Steph. I really wasn't certain what to do. Guest guest
I think this is a really important point of view and the one I myself ascribe to, despite my language which didn't really reflect that. Thank you, Jaye, I appreciate this very much. -- At 08:28 AM 1/17/2011, you wrote: >If it helps at all > >Some people do not consider replacing necessary hormones as " meds " because >they're just putting back what should have already been there. > >In other words, your body might be short on producing T3 or cortisol.
