Guest guest
stephanie....my little girl has been tested for low thyroid...she has been on iodine protocol for 1 year..takes about 12.5 of iodoral plus 100 selenium 4 days per week...she is 13 yrs old and has 2 sisters with hashi's...so far her antibodies are showing below measurable levels or zero.... her Ft3 tested at 4 (2.3 -4.2 pg/ml ) Ft4 1.02 ng/dl tsh 1.1 reverse t3 281 (90-350) ferritin 101 cortisol pattern showed adrenal fatigue what numbers do you look for on Ft3 for your kids that would indicate a need for treatment?? these norms are adult i imagine?? and since her Rt3 is on the high side would you continue the iodine protocol?? and since iodine can be hard on adrenals how should i support her so we can continue iodine since i believe it has helped her with anxiety issues...and focus in classroom...just looking for a mom's opinion here if you can help ..thanks
Guest guest
Her FT3 looks great. Her FT4 is a bit low which results from adrenal fatigue but can be from low zinc levels too. I have had to supplement with zinc in my children. Generally a value of about 1.4 is a good place to be. The RT3 doesn't look horrible to me. I would not focus on it if I were in your shoes. Something to check for is pregnenolone and DHEA. Children are starting to show lower than normal levels. Since these are adrenal hormones and you are having issues with cortisol it may be something to check. I would continue with the iodine since you have seen benefits. It is not iodine that is hard on the adrenals. There is only stress if the person is detoxing and the detoxing is moving faster than the pathways can eliminate. To support adrenals you can use Vit C, Celtic Salt and other herbs like ashwaganda, licorice root. Guest guest
thanks stephanie...i was wondering about that FT3 cause someone told me those norms were for adults and that a child her age upper limit on FT3 would be more like 6?? so i was not sure if her FT3 was in fact good....but you guys use that same normal as my lab?? just wanting to confirm that also..you mention supplementing zinc...i have heard zinc lowers cortisol and hers was sluggish as it is...do you think it ok to use with a low cortisol pattern?? and dhea and preg i will ask to have tested.. how much vitamin c do you give your kids?? we used rhodiola for a while but for some reason in my family it lowers cortisol too much so had to stop it..she is not showing signs of iodine detox anymore...so we will continue...does 12.5 plus 100 of selenium sound about right for a 13 yr old girl weighing about 100 lbs?? > > Her FT3 looks great.
