Guest guest
What I have read is that iodine affects every cell of your body; you don't need alot but you do need a little, everyone does. That's what I've read in several places. If you've been deficient, it makes sense that you'd feel better when you start replenishing the lost stores of iodine in your body. Guest guest
The problem is it's all in your mind. Some kind of wierd placebo effect probably. Guest guest
Funny one, Jim. Ariel-- in fact we need a lot more iodine than is recommended. 50mg a day for adults is considered to be a likely baseline dose because of the constant toxic bath we are all living in. It's only when our bodies have plenty of iodine available that they can begin to kick the halides off the cell receptors and let iodine take its rightful place. -- At 11:52 PM 1/15/2011, you wrote: >The problem is it's all in your mind. Guest guest
, your mention brings up a question I've had for a while and not seen the answer to on this forum: I started taking Iodine as Liquid Iodine Plus (with Iodine and Potassium Iodide)6 drops most days for a total of 300 µg daily (micrograms). I've been doing this for 4 months now and definitely feel better. Does anyone know if this stuff is adequate? The local vitamin shop only has this Iodine available. Guest guest
Thanks, , I had figured we needed much more than the MDR says. Question: my biologist husband tells me that iodide turns into iodine the moment it gets to your stomach. This leads me to ask why Lugol's is recommended along with potassium iodide - why would we need both? Thanks for any help you can give.-ArielOn Sun, Jan 16, 2011 at 3:05 AM, Baker <vbaker@...> wrote: Funny one, Jim. Guest guest
Ariel - The thyroid needs iodine which is reduced to iodide for hormone creation. So it has to make it out of the stomach intact. The oxidation process is what does this in the thyroid cells. The breasts need iodine so it has to make it to them intact as well. What we view outside the body as occurring is not necessarily what happens within the body. Guest guest
Exactly. Ariel, science has some strange ideas about iodine, and this would be one of them. I highly recommend that you purchase Dr Brownstein's book, Iodine: Why You Need It and Why You Can't Live Without It. It contains all the science to satisfy your husband and it is written very simply and clearly to make it accessible to non-scientist readers who are trying to help themselves. It answers most all the questions. https://www.drbrownstein.com/bookstore_Iodine.php For people with the resources, we also recommend people buy Dr B's book on salt, also available through that website. -- >Ariel - The thyroid needs iodine which is reduced to iodide for hormone >creation. Guest guest
Pete, I'm glad you're feeling better, but no, we don't consider that product to be adequate. I too took it for several years before moving to the full iodine protocol as discussed and supported by this list. You don't get very much iodine per drop, so it's a lot more expensive per dose than just buying Lugol's. Lugol's is difficult to come by locally for many people, and it's often really overpriced if people can find it at all. I recommend buying it either from Swanson's or from this ebay seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lugols-solution-4-fl-oz-2-2-iodine-/320494213873?pt=LH_Defau\ ltDomain_0 & hash=item4a9ef19af1 That is the only ebay seller I have bought from and as a result the only one I can recommend. -- >, your mention brings up a question I've had for a while and not >seen the answer to on this forum: I started taking Iodine as Liquid >Iodine Plus (with Iodine and Potassium Iodide)6 drops most days for a >total of 300 µg daily (micrograms). Guest guest
We all know that iodine is a necessary nutrient especially for the thyroid. What I learned recently probably explains why supplementation can have dramatic effects. Iodine and bromine compete for the same receptors in the cells. Bromine is necessary in minute amounts but when it builds to toxic levels and pushes iodine out you get symptoms like " restlessness, weakness, constipation, acne, sores, irritability, loss of balance and confusion. In severe cases, excessive bromine can cause hallucinations, psychosis, stupor and even coma. " [ from Dr. Shallenberger's Real Cures newsletter ] Bromine is found in almost everything nowadays, i.e.; brominated flours (used as a dough conditioner), brominated vegetable oils (in sodas, juices, etc.) to get the oils to stay in suspension in water, carry the flavors and colors, and provide the " mouth feel " that makes the soda satisfying. Bromine also adds a tanginess to the flavor. Bromine is also in pharmaceutical products (Atrovent Inhaler and Nasal Spray, Pro-Banthine (for ulcers), etc. It's also used in commercial pesticide and car upholstery according to Dr. Mercola. ( http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/08/22/Another-Poison-Hid\ ing-in-Your-Environment.aspx ) Vitamin C, lemon juice, cilantro (coriander) and garlic among others will rid the body of bromine as will iodine supplements. But be careful! If it comes out too fast you'll flood the body with it and actually feel worse! And remember, Linus ing called for a MINIMUM of 1000 mg PER HOUR of Vitamin C when you're " sick. " (Read " Curing the Incurable " , by E. Levy, MD, JD.) I take 3000 mg two to three times a day just to keep from getting whatever everyone else is passing around. Guest guest
What type of Vitamin C do you take ? Any special way of taking it ? Where do you get it from ? I like calcium ascorbate but it would give me too much calcium in higher dosages of Vitamin C.
