Guest guest
That's very interesting, as usually iodine lowers estrogen -- which is beneficial to most women, and protective against breast cancer and other things, but for me it's been challenging as my estrogen got too low after being on 50mg Iodoral for a few years (it began getting too low after the first year, once I finished a major detox phase)... But iodine helps me in so many other ways I've been trying phytoestrogens to get it back up to normal - still not there yet, so I've had to reduce my iodine temporarily until I can figure out the female hormone issues... Marlena > > i have been on hormone replacement for 12 years. i have a very hard time getting my estrogen up to acceptable levels even with very high doses. it's good if i can just get my estradiol up to 150. but since i have been supplementing with iodine my last estradiol level was 403. i was just wondering if anyone knew if the cause could be the iodine. thank you very much >
Guest guest
I didn't realize there was a post similar to my post- sorry!! So, what I am reading is that iodine can either INCREASE estrodial or LOWER it??? My salvia test showed HIGH estrodial and I am on 3 pumps of estrogen. I have trouble weaning. > > I can't answer your question. However, since starting Iodine months back, I am now able to take my NatureThroid daily. I couldn't take it daily before. I also am able to increase it as my doc has instructed. > I contribute it to the Iodine. > I just looked at my blood tests. And my Estradiol went down with the Iodine. And I had been taking a bio-identical estrogen creme. Hmm....Interesting. > > can iodine increase estrogen levels? > > > > i have been on hormone replacement for 12 years. i have a very hard time getting my estrogen up to acceptable levels even with very high doses. it's good if i can just get my estradiol up to 150. but since i have been supplementing with iodine my last estradiol level was 403. i was just wondering if anyone knew if the cause could be the iodine. thank you very much >
Guest guest
Increase in iodine should result in increased production of thyroid hormones, especially if you were iodine deficient to begin. Increased levels of thyroid hormone increase metabolism. This means that all our cells, including those which in turn produce other hormones will function at a higher rate. I think this is why people with type II diabetes find they can do with less insulin when taking iodine, simply because they are getting more insulin output from the pancreas. It is logical to think that higher metabolic rates would cause more estrogen production also. > > i have been on hormone replacement for 12 years. i have a very hard time getting my estrogen up to acceptable levels even with very high doses. it's good if i can just get my estradiol up to 150. but since i have been supplementing with iodine my last estradiol level was 403. i was just wondering if anyone knew if the cause could be the iodine. thank you very much >
Guest guest
hi all- my ovaries stopped putting out hormones when i was 28, i am 40 now. my endocrinologist and gynecologist both want my estrogen to be above 150. somewhere between 150-200. even with high doses of estrogen, i could barely get there. they even sent me for a pregnancy test! thank God it was negative as i have 4 children already. i will do more research on this~ thanks~! > > > > i have been on hormone replacement for 12 years. i have a very hard time getting my estrogen up to acceptable levels even with very high doses. it's good if i can just get my estradiol up to 150. but since i have been supplementing with iodine my last estradiol level was 403. i was just wondering if anyone knew if the cause could be the iodine. thank you very much > > >
Guest guest
I can't remember where I found this online, but these are notes taken from: Anonymous Report – Iodine Conference Feb 07 " IODINE APPEARS TO WORK LIKE TAMOXIFEN ON THE ESTROGEN RECEPTORS  Iodine suppresses the estrogen receptors. Iodine also has caused some HRT users to require more estrogen to keep menopausal symptoms under control. Iodine appears to sensitize all the hormone receptors (except estrogen). Those taking Cortef (for adrenals) may eventually require less. " I'm only 34 but found that after 1 year on 50mg Iodoral (when I was 31 or 32), I began to get some menopause like symptoms such as night sweats and difficulty ovulating. I also dropped a cup size plus experienced too much weight loss in general. I thought I was having hyperthyroid symptoms, but when I got tested I was still a hypo (though less so than before the iodine), but my estrogen and progesterone were really low. So I began natural progesterone, which initially helped and relieved all the above symptoms, but as it woke up my estrogen receptors, I went through a period of estrogen dominance, then it balanced out, but then my progesterone was fine but my estrogen again became too low. So now I'm working with phytoestrogenic herbs. Again they helped take care of the symptoms initially, but now the symptoms have returned, so I'm not sure if it will just take longer or if I need to permanently reduce my iodine. I've been on a high dosage for years and have gotten very close to 90% excretion. My hypothyroid symptoms feel so much better on a high dose, so I'm hoping I am able to find a way to keep my estrogen up... Best wishes to all, Marlena > > > > i have been on hormone replacement for 12 years. i have a very hard time getting my estrogen up to acceptable levels even with very high doses. it's good if i can just get my estradiol up to 150. but since i have been supplementing with iodine my last estradiol level was 403. i was just wondering if anyone knew if the cause could be the iodine. thank you very much > > >
Guest guest
Ann- You can ask. I just found out last night when ZRT finished my saliva labs... I don't see the doctor until Thursday. When I have tried to wean down I get migraines.. :-( Lori > > > > > > I can't answer your question. However, since starting Iodine months back, I am now able to take my NatureThroid daily. Guest guest
It's possible, although there are other reasons why progesterone can get low. Was your estrogen high? Most people are estrogen dominant and the iodine helps tremendously with this. It protects us against the xeno-estrogens in environmental pollutants... Slender women have a lot less estrogen in their bodies and so becoming estrogen deficient may happen quicker on iodine. I was on a fairly high dose - 50mg... Which, like I said, really helped me in all other ways... besides the estrogen issue... And the first year it probably detoxed me of a lot of dangerous estrogen, which is what contributes to fibrocystic breasts, breast cancer, and other cancers... ~Marlena > > > > > > i have been on hormone replacement for 12 years. i have a very hard time > getting my estrogen up to acceptable levels even with very high doses. it's > good if i can just get my estradiol up to 150. but since i have been > supplementing with iodine my last estradiol level was 403. i was just > wondering if anyone knew if the cause could be the iodine. thank you very > much > > > > > >
Guest guest
Iodine will help your body regulate hormones better, so whichever way one's hormones need help, will be gained through iodine. -- At 08:52 AM 3/29/2011, you wrote: >I can't answer your question. Guest guest
Thanks , good to know. My husband was told today he has too much lead in his system, and will start IV chelation next week. Since we don't know where the excess lead is coming from, I took the test today, and it has really messed with my hormones. It's an IV EDTA, and within minutes, I was in tears. Still not balanced and it's 8 hrs later. I'm guessing it chelated my Iodine too. I'm hoping I don't have high levels of lead, I don't think I could handle the IV Chelation. If anyone has experience with chelation and balancing hormones, please post. can iodine increase estrogen levels?>>>>i have been on hormone replacement for 12 years. i have a very hard time >getting my estrogen up to acceptable levels even with very high doses. >it's good if i can just get my estradiol up to 150. but since i have been >supplementing with iodine my last estradiol level was 403. i was just >wondering if anyone knew if the cause could be the iodine. thank you very >much >>>>>~~~ There is no way to peace; peace is the way ~~~~--A.J. Guest guest
Can anyone address this definitively? It is of great concern that iodine acts like Tamoxifan, suppressing estrogen receptors. This is news, and I hope we might have a good solution. Is it as simple as supplementing with estrogen and progesterone cream?(estro from days 2-15; progest days 15-25?) Or might pregnenalone be the only solution? For those taking 100mgs iodine, it is important to know how to keep the hormones up! Thanks! > >> > > >> > i have been on hormone replacement for 12 years. i have a very hard time > >>getting my estrogen up to acceptable levels even with very high doses. it's good > >>if i can just get my estradiol up to 150. but since i have been supplementing > >>with iodine my last estradiol level was 403. i was just wondering if anyone knew > >>if the cause could be the iodine. thank you very much > >> > > >> >
Guest guest
This reminded me of something my dd16 asked the other day. She asked me if iodine sterilized things. I said yes, it was a disinfectant. She then asked if it would sterilize HER! After I stopped chuckling, I explained the difference...
