Guest guest
I do know that poppy seeds can throw a UA off; I got that directly from a lab tech who measures these things.ArielOn Wed, Mar 30, 2011 at 3:10 PM, migs2norma <migs2norma@...> wrote: My husband started iodine about 2 weeks ago. Taking about 50mg in a combination of lugols or sometimes iodoral. Strangely the UA he had done this morning to start a new job, the lines werent showing up as they should. It doesn't say he is on drugs it just didn't read out properly or normal. He has never had this problem and is not on drugs. They are going to send it out for further examination and call him from the lab. He spaced out about mentioning he has been taking iodine. He was trying to think back if it was something he ate and in shock since he's never had one not pass. Any help with this is greatly appreciated, Thank you. -- " Throughout much of the world, most people are busy being boring. Guest guest
Thanks Ariel, that's right about poppy seeds. He hasn't had any for a few months. If he does which is maybe 4 times a year is in the muffins from regular stores. The only thing different in his diet is the iodine. ~norma > > I do know that poppy seeds can throw a UA off; I got that directly from a > lab tech who measures these things. > Ariel
Guest guest
Perhaps he's detoxing something that's showing up on the test. If he did drugs as a young person I suppose there could be remnants stored and the iodine is purging it. Just a thought... > > > > I do know that poppy seeds can throw a UA off; I got that directly from a > > lab tech who measures these things. > > Ariel >
Guest guest
Very true - I do know that marijuana is fat soluble for example and can stay in your system for up to a year under normal conditions; if he's detoxing it could be from the poppy seeds too!It all depends on how sensitive the test is, what they're looking for and how they interpret the results. And it could be the iodine as well or instead of poppy seeds, etc. Now here's some info on iodine and drug testing NORML's website: " Iodine is a popular adulterant used by drug test " thwarters " forced to submit to urinalysis on short notice. While scientific studies have demonstrated that iodine destroys certain drug metabolites (e.g. morphine) on contact, it is less efficient (though still somewhat effective) at eliminating marijuana metabolites. " http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6991I googled " effect of iodine on drug testing " and the above is what I got. It would seem very likely that the positive test is due to his iodine intake.
