Guest guest
http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/checkout/cart/ this is where we get our magnesium oil. It's an aquarium supply shop. Without seeing the description, I don't know if the liquid is same as the oil, but it's much cheaper to buy the crystals and mix it with water yourself, also very simple. I wouldn't even bother with the tablets, transdermal magnesium oil seems to be the best, most effective way to do it. Cheaper, too. Hope this helps.ArielOn Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 10:01 AM, Laurie K <jlkowalski2@...> wrote: Does anyone have a good source for this? Can it be bought in the store? Guest guest
Swansons sells a very affordable and I think excellent quality mag oil. I got some and use it. The thing to remember about the oil is it will make you feel itchy at first, especially if you are mag deprived. As you use it more and become less deprived the initial itchiness goes down. I also don't find the itchiness lasts too long. But I tend to put it on and then go to bed. Guest guest
Mag oil is also best taken with calcium and Vitamin D. Transdermally is the best way to do it, from everything I've read and from my own experience. That way, the oil can be absorbed slowly and the body then has time to decide how to use it. Slower absorption means more of it will be utilized. On Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 10:01 AM, Laurie K <jlkowalski2@...> wrote: Does anyone have a good source for this? Can it be bought in the store? Guest guest
I indeed found the itchy, stingy factor to quickly retreat upon repeated use. However, what has pulled me back from regular usage is the increasingly odd dryness of my skin after daily use. Guest guest
Hi Ariel,They don’t get nausea from the magnesium, they are nauseous from the headaches – cluster/migraine type. It is hard for them to hold down anything that helps clear the headaches. Magnesium relaxes both muscles and blood vessels, so it often helps clear up the headaches faster. I do have mag oil, hadn’t thought to try it on them when having a headache. I will do that next time. In general though, their incidences of headaches has lessened since starting on the iodine protocol almost 2 years ago. Guest guest
Donna - Their " cluster " migraines have improved with iodine? And you find quicker abatement of pain with the liquid mag (which type? citrate?) when they do get them? I have a friend who gets terrible cluster migraines. When they get bad and frequent she always ends up doing a pred taper. Which is a couple times a year at least. I would love to be able to point her in the direction of something effective and NOT a steroid. Non of the typical migraine meds worked for her. I get significantly fewer migraines than I used to but mine are fairly typical and respond to relpax quite well when I need it. Guest guest
Donna-- great to hear about iodine lessening their headaches. You might try rubbing the mag oil on their necks and temples in addition to other places to get the mag into them. -- At 01:15 PM 1/20/2011, you wrote: > >Hi Ariel, >They don’t get nausea from the magnesium, they are nauseous from the >headaches – cluster/migraine type. Guest guest
It's not equivalent to put it in the bath compared with spraying directly on the skin-- meaning-- you can't spray one spray in the bath and expect the child to receive 18mg of magnesium as they would on the skin. You don't have to spray it on them, you can just spray it in your hand and smooth it on the skin. That's how I do it for myself. Bathing in mag chloride or mag sulfate is a good idea, but it isn't as effective. btw, for people with children on the autism spectrum, it's been suggested (elsewhere) that magnesium sulfate is a good bath soak for them because they are frequently deficient in sulfates. Magnesium sulfate is usually known as Epsom Salts. We recommend epsom salts baths here too. -- >I was actually debating about the flakes vs. the spray. Guest guest
Hi Jaxi,Their cluster headaches have improved since starting the iodine protocol. I can’t say it is the iodine specifically, or the effect of their bodies being given lots of needed nutrients and is in general better. We get sick even less than we did years ago when we first started working on allergies. So in general the protocol has helped. I think it really helps when I keep up the magnesium on a daily basis. For one of my sons, sugar seems to be a trigger, and while I control a lot of his eating, he is 16 and when we go to grandparents for a whole weekend where diet is horrid and sugar products are rampant, he would pig out. Well, sense is beginning to set in, and he now has learned that moderation really helps! He also is not so quick to buy lots of candy when he is out of the house. I use the magnesium chloride liquid from vitacost that is listed at the bottom of this e-mail thread. It is not oil, I do have that also, this is a regular liquid. I can put ½ a teaspoon in some juice and it gets into their blood stream better than dissolving a pill. When they take it every half hour, it helps lessen the pain and sometimes lessens the length of the headache. Of course, it is getting them to actually do it that is the problem! I do want to try also putting the oil on transdermally in addition in the future. It certainly can’t hurt to try! Part of my thought on the lessening of the migraines is the body’s need for magnesium, and that over the course of the protocol, they have gotten much more on a regular basis, helping their muscles and blood vessels to not tense up so much. In the book about adrenal fatigue that is often listed here (I don’t have the title and link handy – Ido, you always do that so well!), there is a chapter on magnesium, and if I remember right, it talked about how magnesium helps headaches. I used to actually keep a photocopy of that chapter, but don’t know where it is right now. Taking magnesium and the whole iodine protocol might not help your friend’s headaches, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to try! We all need those nutrients anyway for other processes. Maybe just healing her body more would help the headaches to lessen. Donna in IL Donna - Their " cluster " migraines have improved with iodine? Guest guest
Hi Donna,I am allergic to sugar. Anyway I have sympathy for your son. Sugar is in everything packaged. Trader Joes has a chocolate that is dairy and sugar free but that is rare find. Vitacost sells stevia flavorings from sweetleaf.com that can make soda with a at sodastream machine. I find it on amazon in the ads on the page. Also CrackerBarrel sells a cuisinart that makes icecream easily from things like melon, salt and coconut oil or berries and coconut milk. I guess I am saying makes some healthy treats as competition for the others that make him sick. My chiropractor/GP pointed out that sugar, dairy and yeast were actually causing new illnesses and hard on the brain and GI tract and was enough for me but 16 is so much tougher. Also sufficient illness drives the point home like when had each bite feel like eating cut glass. The body does remember. PamOn Fri, Jan 21, 2011 at 10:08 AM, Donna Iler <Donna@...> wrote: Hi Jaxi,Their cluster headaches have improved since starting the iodine protocol. Guest guest
Not sure if this is the best thread to place this, but I found a liquid magnesium citrate at the Dollar Tree! It is an 8 oz clear bottle, and 1 tsp.=approx 300 mgs magnesium. I like it better than pills or tabs, and you can't beat the price. It is meant as a laxative, but only if you consume at least half the bottle! Guest guest
The iodine protocol did not help my migraines, and I've been on it for 1.5 yrs. What has helped is taking copious amounts of CoQ10 (ubiquinol) daily. That lessens the severity and duration. Also, it allows the typical migraine meds to work on me. ~WOn Fri, Jan 21, 2011 at 1:08 PM, Donna Iler <Donna@...> wrote: Hi Jaxi,Their cluster headaches have improved since starting the iodine protocol. I'm curious, why do you give them magnesium for headaches?ArielOn Thu, Jan 20, 2011 at 11:43 AM, Donna Iler <Donna@...> wrote: Laurie, I buy mag chloride in tablet and liquid form from vitacost.com. the liquid is not the oil for putting on skin, it is regular liquid for taking orally. I use it for my sons when they have headaches and I am trying to get supplements into them quickly without them throwing them back up. The liquid seems to sit better on a nauseous stomach. http://www.vitacost.com/Alta-Health-Products-Magnesium-Chloride http://www.vitacost.com/NutriCology-Magnesium-Chloride-Liquid Donna in IL From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of Laurie K Sent: Thursday, January 20, 2011 9:02 AMiodine Subject: Sources for Magnesium Chloride Does anyone have a good source for this? Guest guest
Just thought I'd let you know that I found 8 oz bottles of lemon-flavored magnesium citrate liquid at the Dollar Tree(East Coast Company, I think)! Can't beat the price, and it is so easy to drop a couple teaspoons into a little water and chug. (1 tsp.= about 350 mgs) Marcy > > > > > > > > Laurie, > > > > I buy mag chloride in tablet and liquid form from vitacost.com. the liquid > > is not the oil for putting on skin, it is regular liquid for taking orally. > > I use it for my sons when they have headaches and I am trying to get > > supplements into them quickly without them throwing them back up.
