I'm sure this has been asked/answered many times, but could someone tell me how many milligrams of iodine in one drop Lugols--I think it's 2%. Thank you. Beverly

Thank you from me too.

My Lugols say "contains: Iodine 5% w/v. Potassium Iodide 10% w/v.

Pharmaceutical raw material"

Does this make this Lugols 2% or 5 %.  It is in a 100ml bottle.

My apologies if this has been covered elsewhere.

Many thanks,

.

2.5 mg per drop if you hold the dropper

vertically, and 5 mg if you hold the dropper

horizontal:)

I am not sure this is valid. I have seen this a couple of times but never seen a scientific "study" of this.

I dunno about the science, but that's what it says

on several sites that sell Lugol's. I'm just

making a good guess, but I reckon the drop size

changes depending on the way the dropper is held.

But I've read it over and over on humpteen

different sites.

Well here ya go... I did find this:

Holding a dropper bottle at an angle will result

in the wrong amount of reagent being dispensed.

Hold it vertically to maintain uniform drop size.

Found it on this page:

http://www.taylortechnologies.com/ChemistryTopicsCM.ASP?ContentID=77

and

er+horizontally & cd=2 & hl=en & ct=clnk & gl=us & client=firefox-a

These both seem to make a point about holding the

droppers vertically for uniform drop size and

proper measurements of whatever is in the dropper.

Part of the answer?

Always pipette vertically was what chemistry students were (and should be still)

taught. That held for titration procedures, pipetting volumes, drop dispensing,

and any similar procedure.

Why? Surface tension, surface area, and liquid to dispenser (the dropper, etc.)

contact area for starters.

, the iodine you purchased is 5% Lugol's solution. The percentage refers

to amount of elemental iodine (I2) present. Some manufacturers (such as Alpha

Omega Labs) erroneously include the amount of iodide in the potassium iodide to

come up with a percentage. This means that a 7% iodine solution from Alpha Omega

Labs is equivalent to a 2.3% Lugol's solution. They should not call their iodine

solution " Lugol's " because it does not conform to the definition of Lugol's

solution. However, their iodine is good; you just need to make sure you are not

misled by their percentage figure.

There are not different ones, if they say Lugols on it, it is Lugols. It’s like shopping for other things, choose the % you want, and compare prices. But many here buy from an Amazon seller, others Swanson. Donna in IL Can anyone tell me where to buy Lugols? There are so many different ones and prices I am confused.

This is the best deal I have found:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Lugols-solution-4-fl-oz-2-2-iodine-/320494213873?pt=LH_Defau\

ltDomain_0 & hash=item4a9ef19af1

The quality is good.

,

Make sure you take the Lugol's solution with food. Some peoples stomachs are senstive to it. Iodoral is enteric coated and doesn’t break down in the tummy; I take Iodoral but I make sure I also take a drop or two of Lugol's as it it is good to have the iodine exposed to the first part of the digestive system as well. Best, Kathleen

lugols

I plan to switch from iodoral to lugols as my dose (and the cost) gets bigger. Are there any differences (particularly on the gut) positive or negative with this move?Thank you in advance for any comments.
