Hi Lora,

I had the same reaction when I was taking

a higher dosage – heart palpitations, insomnia and awful anxiety. I

don’t know why I was experiencing that either. I stopped using it

for a few weeks and now I am starting out very slowly. I think it was possibly

too much for me and I worked up too quickly. I know everyone is different/reacts

differently. I’ve always had that trouble with medications and would

never take cold medicine for that very reason. I felt like I was allergic

to them. Maybe you could pulse the iodine or back down your dosage

or a mixture of both. That might help you. Even when I stopped using the Lugol’s,

I think I still had the heart palpitations for a few days, but I can’t

recall.

Hope that helps and you are feeling

better! J

. heart

palpitations after starting iodine...

Hi,

I am new to this group... My name is Lora and I'm 39. I just had an ovary

removed due to a cyst that was causing me great pain. The doctor said it was

the kind that would not go away, that it would only grow. I also was having

excrutiating back pain and muscle spasms. It felt like when you get a cold or

flu and it settles in the muscles of your back. My other symptoms are fatigue,

brain fog and my hair is falling out and getting thinner.

I had my vitamin D levels tested and they were at 16...so I have been

supplementing that and just had my levels retested but don't have the results

back yet. I have been supplementing with fish oil, probitics, vit D, Garden of

Life multi vit and digestive enzymes.

I found out about iodine and started supplementing that about 3 weeks ago. I

have a friend that is an ND that is also a pharmacist that formulates iodine to

exact Lugol standards. I took 12.5 mg daily for about 2 weeks. I felt so much

better within a few days. The spasms in my back got 80% better. I did have some

detox symptoms but nothing intolerable. Then I upped the dosage to 25 mg and

was doing okay but noticed my heart would feel funny after I took the iodine.

Now for the past 3 days these heart palpitations have gotten really bad and it

is scaring me! I don't know if they are heart palpitations or an arrythmia or

what. It feels like my heart skips a beat and is doing some other weird things.

It is happening a lot...I had a hard time sleeping and it is making me nervous

as it is not going away. I didn't take iodine yesterday or today and it is

still happening. I am not sure if the iodine is causing it or not. Any

ideas/suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Welcome Lora,

Are you taking the companion nutrients? When you joined this group you were sent the New Members doc. If you saved it, please read it. If you didn’t save it, you can go to FILES and the New Member doc., Read First. There is lots of good information there. Especially read about the companion nutrients, especially important is unrefined Celtic Sea Salt which helps so much with detoxing. Read the Commonly asked questions section. Heart palps can be a detox symptom. You can try the Salt Loading Protocol #7, this can be very helpful in helping the bromides and other halides leave the body more quickly and easily. If you find this isn't working, then you can pulse dose. for example, 5 days on iodine, 2 days off, etc. After you read the Commonly asked questions you will have a better idea of how to adjust iodine for your own personal needs. Best, Kathleen

My heart palps were magnesium....I take 400 mg of mag glycinate am and pm.....an easy test would be to take an Epsom salts soak and see if the palps quiet down a bit.Joan

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Joan,

I wasn’t taking the magnesium glycinate.

That’s definitely what I will try this time! I also have to try the Epson salt

soak – thank you for the reminder! J

Thank you.

I think that I have heard to check on low potassium for heart

issues, especially if you get high blood pressure.

I highly recommend higher, consistent doses of magnesium. Magnesium makes 350+/-

other things work in your body and will definitely help to bring about balance.

I take Source Naturals Mag Malate (6 tabs/day is about 850 mg which is double

the RDA).

I would also recommend you read in the files about salt loading. This can really

help with the palpitations.

Thank you all so much for your responses! You all had great advice and I

really appreciate your thoughtfulness :) I started taking magnesium both

transdermal and by mouth and it did help a lot! The palps decreased

significantly. They did wake me last night and I had trouble sleeping and

had anxiety isssues this morning. I took more magnesium and haven't had any

palpitations today!! I read all the new member documents and they were

helpful. There is a lot more info in the files I haven't gotten to yet, but

I am looking forward to it :).

I still haven't started back on iodine...it's been 4 days. My back spasms

are getting worse again, so I know that it was definitely the iodine that

was helping them. I am thinking about going back on the iodine tomorrow,

but I am nervous about it cause I don't want the heart issues to come back

as they really make me nervous! Any other detox symptoms I can deal with,

but the heart ones are rather scary. These are not dangerous right, just a

detox symptom? I will go into town tomorrow and get the other recommended

supplements- vitamin C, selenium, and celtic sea salt to use along side of

the iodine.

How much should I take when I start back up again? Should I do 12.5 mg, or

maybe even 6.25 mg...or ? I was up to 25 mg after about 3 weeks- 2 on 12.5

mg and one on 25 mg and then I started having the heart issues. I wasn't

doing any of the recommended supplements, but will this time for sure! Also,

should I try Idoral instead of the Lugol formulation - would that possibly

cut back on any heart issues/anxiety?

Thanks again for all of your advice!

I didn't experience any anxiety when I was using Iodoral. I also didn't

experience some of the positives that I did with Lugol's though, so it was a

trade-off for me. I'm trying Lugol's again because I need those benefits that I

didn't notice with Iodoral.
