With all the discussion of Vitamin D that's going on, there are a few things I have to say . . .1. We don't just make Vitamin D from sunshine. We convert cholesterol into D. If you don't get enough cholesterol, there is no conversion.2. The conversion process is not efficient, nor is it always possible. One study of street children in New Delhi, India found that most of them were deficient. I live in Seattle, and haven't seen real sun for about 16 months. It's been ugly year. (I love it, but it's hard on D, depression, etc.)3. Even if we take supplements, there is another conversion that must happen to convert D2 (the oily form of Vitamin D) to D3 (the active form). Lots can go wrong in this step - poor

absorption of oil, then poor conversion, etc. Best to just take the active form (D3, which is the dry, water soluble form) to begin with.4. It doesn't matter how much you take (and a Dr. telling you to take a certain amount, but not more, is kinda whacked!) if it's not absorbed, not converted, not used correctly. The only way to tell is either test (good numbers) or results. My Hugs takes 5000iu 4X day for his arthritis pain. That dosing schedule works best for him.I don't have pain to measure results with, AND I have severe fat malabsorption. I take 50,000iu 3X day, to get my D levels (by lab test) to 128.Yes, he takes 5K, I take 50K. We get it here . . .http://www.vitalady.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?search=action & keywords=vtmnad & template=Templates/sr_vtmnad.htmlVitaminDCouncil.org is great source. D is too important to be lax with . . .Peace. :o) H in Washington State Any sufficiently advanced technology is
