Yet my thyroid has shrunk significantly since I started the iodine protocol, & swallowing has become much easier. This makes me wonder if there aren't a LOT of enlarged thyroids -- so many that it is being seen as normal. Goiter, by definition, is caused by lack of iodine, so I would definitely say that iodine is worth a try for you. I seem to remember reading that the really big goiters leave scar tissue behind, but if yours is small enough that no doctor has remarked on it, I would guess that iodine might well get rid of it. Lots of people on this list take both iodine & thyroid meds. SOME people report, over time, that they can reduce their thyroid meds after they have been on the iodine protocol for a while. So you should definitely monitor your thyroid status. (And be sure to take companion nutrients.) But thyroid meds are not a reason not to take iodine. As I was picking up my prescription, she said, "You look like you have a goiter." This pharmacist is one sharp lady and has given me fantastic advice over the past few years, better than doctors. That comment left me speechless though! The pharmacy was busy, and I didn't have a chance to ask her if she had any suggestions the day she made the comment. The doctor hasn't said anything about a goiter. I had RAI in 2005, and don't really want to mention this to my new doctor. She's nice and seems knowledgeable, but I'm a bit afraid of saying anything regarding thyroid or thyroid meds to any doctor. Sorry for the rambling. Here are my questions. Does iodine help reduce or get rid of a goiter, if I have one? If I don't have one, will it cause problems if I add lugols or iodoral to the 2 grains of NTH? It's taken me five years (and as many doctors) to get to a place where I feel well, and if adding the iodine might cause problems, I'm not sure I want to add it in. Are you supposed to have labs done before adding iodine? If I have a goiter, does that mean I'm not on enough NTH? Thank you for your help. I appreciate it!
