Guest guest
It sounds like it is stirring up toxins. With an rt3 issue I would be suspect as it is tied to a liver overload as well. If he is toxic in bromide (as my son was at that age) then you will need to work on detoxing him. I got an OATS test with Env toxins for my son and that showed me what nutrients we needed to input to get his detox pathways working again. For him it was Co-Q10, 5HTP, Amino Acids and B Complex. Are you giving him fish oils? This helped my son as Omega 3 fatty acids are great for the nervous system. Buist, ND son acting wild with iodine... hi,my son 8years of age is causing trouble at school now, starting arguments and hurting friends, very hyperactive. at home resisting to do homework and being overly stubborn when told to start dinner/go to bed etc. He is not "normally" quite like this.I have given him iodine for two weeks now, about half an Iodoral pill, but I crunch it in juice so maybe some days he is getting a little more than 6.5mg. He is also hypothyroid with rt3.Do you think iodine is activating his thyroid too much too soon and it might cause this? he is still on t4, but I'd like him to start Erfa soon. Maybe it is a good idea to get him tested?Should I take him off iodine to see if it changed anything?Susa in Finland
Guest guest
hi, he is getting fish oil and cod liver oil. all other companion nutrients except optimox b and mg. i ordered a new mg since he does not like natural calm and as citrate it is not the best anyway. what could oats test be here in Finland? would a hair analysis be good? You advised on TLC in another tread, I did not get an answer yet what product that actually is, but I've given my son Metagenics kids version for over a month now, it should clean liver phases very well. Guest guest
Magnesium is a key nutrient in these sorts of issues. It is the very first nutrient recommended for ADD/autistic disorders & everything remotely related to them (hyper & antisocial behavior.) You HAVE to get magnesium into that kid, as soon as possible.Did you try putting honey in the Natural Calm? The stuff is AWFULLY sour without it, even the flavored ones. If you sweeten it enough, it is more like lemonade. If you put it in with the hot water, it dissolves readily.Anyway, if you can't use Natural Calm & are waiting for supplements to arrive, the next thing to try is a detoxing bath. Put a cup or two of epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) in the tub. (Maybe 1 cup the first night, & work your way up, just so you see what happens.) Magnesium chloride is good, too, but here, epsom salts is (are?) easier to get. You can also add baking soda & unrefined sea salt. Use it at bedtime, because a detox bath tends to make a person sleepy. You want to keep him in the tub at least 20 minutes. There are also recipes out on the internet for mixing epsom salts into lotions or oils so it can be used transdermally. I would continue to use baths or lotions even after the pills arrive, because this kid needs LOTS of magnesium.Vitamin B6 is often recommended right along with the magnesium, but you do have to be careful with this. Many kids find it soothing, but a few kids get MORE hyper when you give them B6. So I would try B6 after you have worked out a good magnesium program. If he gets calmer or stays the same when you add the B6, then you are golden. If he loses ground & gets more hyper with B6, then you quite likely have a kid with phenol issues, & you need to read up on that. (There is a low phenol diet -- doesn't that sound like fun? Yep, your life can get even more complicated. Let me count the ways...)Vitamin C helps a lot with detox, & many people need a lot more than the standard dose, so raising his vitamin C levels would also help him handle the detox better. The usual recommendation is to increase the daily dose until he gets diarrhea, & then back off a bit. ("To bowel tolerance.") Our need for vitamin C varies with the challenges we are facing. Often the dose that was adequate before an illness or detox event is no longer adequate when the body is dealing with a challenge. Even if you are dosing him to his former bowel tolerance, he might need more now. In fact, he might need a LOT more now. (This is a place where liposomal C can be a big help. We often benefit from doses higher than what our bowels can tolerate.)As a rule of thumb, if a kid has a strong detox reaction to something, he really needs it. This is counter-intuitive. A lot of times, people try something & feel lousy, & stop. That is not what you want to do. You just need to figure out how to reduce the detox discomfort.AnneOn Apr 6, 2011, at 10:09 AM, Susa wrote: hi, he is getting fish oil and cod liver oil. all other companion nutrients except optimox b and mg. i ordered a new mg since he does not like natural calm and as citrate it is not the best anyway. what could oats test be here in Finland? would a hair analysis be good? Guest guest
I used to be able to order them through one of my professional accounts but I just checked and they are no longer offering it. That was how I did my son. I guess I will need to find another solution. It was about $400-500 if I remember correctly. I know I spend close to $800 when I tested food allergies w/ environmental toxins and the OATS with it. Guest guest
I have an eight-year-old son who is very much like this when he is getting too many toxins. For my son, it could be even too much juice every day - but I can think of two things that will tell you if it is stiring up too much toxins and he's not able to get them out. Do the salt protocal - 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in water - have him drink that, then follow with a glass of water - repeat that in about 45 minutes - then repeat a third time. My son's behavior improves quite a bit when I do that. The other thing is to give him activated charcoal and see if his behavior improves. That will also help to draw the toxins out of his bloodstream. You should also have him checked for MTHF gene defect (a blood test), which messes with your methylation pathways - that is why some people need the 5-MTHF or Folopro to help with detox. If it is toxins (which it certainly sounds like it), you can try using the salt protocal once a week or so, but if that is not enough to help him, then you might start out with a little less iodoral. Also, are you giving him salt water every day? My son gets very hyper if I don't give him the 1/4 teaspoon of seasalt every day. I know how frustrating these behaviors can be for you, for your son, and the people around him. Good luck! Viola > > > > It sounds like it is stirring up toxins.
