agreed - applying it topically works best.ArielOn Tue, Apr 5, 2011 at 5:42 PM, Hawkridge <rayehawk@...> wrote:

yes, I assume that I have problems with the detoy pathways.

The tolerance of my intestine on salt and magnesium is very low. I need medical charcoale on a daily basis.

Mag Citrate is also laxative. I have told this story before: I use to

live in a small town with a large population that used alternative medical

practices. I went to my acupuncturist/ND with a complaint that the

diarrhea associated with my fibromyalgia had come back. He asked me if I'd

been taking magnesium supplements, which I had. The mag citrate product

called " Calm " had come out recently, and was being prominently displayed in

the local natural foods store, and I'd been taking it, and so had a lot of

my ND's patients. He was seeing an epidemic of diarrhea due to a sudden

increase in people supplementing with mag citrate.

Many people have tried to say that it's the " quality " of the magnesium that

determines whether there is a laxative effect. However, it's not the

quality. Any form of magnesium, no matter how bioavailable, can have a

laxative effect. Magnesium glycinate is supposed to not have a laxative

effect, but it still affects me strongly, for example.

I was once prescribed magnesium IV infusions for fibromyalgia pain, but

which I couldn't afford. The reason for IV infusions is because of the gut

issue. If given IV, the gut issue is avoided and larger therapeutic doses

of mag can be given. That is why I have gone mostly to the transdermal

form with magnesium oil, is because I have not gut tolerance for mag.

But the good news, if you can handle oral mag., is that about 2 tsp. more than meets the protocol requirement, with no pill popping.

Plus it is at the Dollar Tree!

Anne is correct. Even some of the higher grade professional brands have been tested to not be what they advertise to be (potency wise). I would never trust my health to using dollar store, pharmacy (like Walgreens or CVS) or even most things at CostCo. Better to order from iHerb.com or Swansons or even Vitacost to get a lower cost. It's not worth it try to cut corners when it comes to something like this when there are moderate priced options.

USP grade magnesium crystals are available from the aquarium suppliers and it is

always preferable to have that grade on the label of the product.

You know, I had a problem for a while with feeling really queasy after taking my evening supplements. I was taking all the same stuff I had been taking (no iodine in the evening) but suddenly every evening, I felt like I was going to throw up a short time after I took my supplements. Happened for a week or two, & then stopped, & I never figured out why. It was WEIRD! Wish I could tell both of us why...AnneOn Apr 6, 2011, at 12:45 PM, a wrote:

Last summer I felt very well during several weeks while taking quite large amounts of sea saltl, but suddenly I could no longer tolerate it; I do not know why.

The selenium made me nauseas. Magnesium no problem. B vitamins a little---may be best taken with food.
