Yes Iodine can for some cause them to need less thyroid medication. Iodine is the key foundational nutrient in thyroid hormone creation. When deficient you will not be able to create hormones.

I have noticed during this time I have had lots of issues with taking my cytomel and I am wondering if by taking the iodine, does it lower your bodies need for thyroid meds? My own personal experience has been that I no longer need thyroid meds after bumping up iodine dose up to around 100mgs lugols. But thank God he blessed me with friends who knew about this group early in my illness. I really think it depends on the irreversable damage already done before iodine, as to how little you will need of thyroid meds.

An endo told me after 5 or so years being supported by thyroid meds that body becomes dependent on the thyroid medicine. So time has something to do with it. The GP/chiropractor that has helped me heal the most agreed with that concept.

The endo thought that FM likely caused the hypo so likely wouldn't have had that without FM. His guaifenesin treatment for FM has reversed 12,000 with FM and working for me over time(8 years needed and about halfway myself).

Iodine has helped me lose 92 pounds and back to my high school size for jeans which is one size smaller than my sons who are skinny and 6-3. My husband has lost 93 pounds and recently started iodine himself.

I think my thyroid works much better these days. I was never more than 95-96 degrees before iodine even with 4 grains or 240 mg of armour daily. I am at 98 something these days and need much less warm clothing. I used to wear winter coats in summer and now rarely wear them in winter. I used to have year round ice cold hands and feet and those are not an issue any more.
