Guest guest
Hi Michele,I see that you have posted this twice, I don’t know that anyone knows. What exactly is this scan? And why do you have to be off iodine and thyroid? Donna in IL From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of MishieSent: Monday, January 24, 2011 1:30 AMiodine Subject: RAI & Iodoroal? I am about to have my first post thyroid cancer low dose scan (not thetherapeutic RAI I-131), where I will have to go onto a low iodine diet for a few weeks and have to go off thyroid for a few weeks. Does anybody know how long I should be off the Iodoral to be on the safe side, so that it doesn't affect the results of the scan? I'm on 50 at the moment. Thanks, Michele
Guest guest
I posted it again because I got no replies so thought it had been missed. Maybe I should be asking this question on the sites that address the issues related to thyroid cancer. We that have no thyroid often to go through the yearly body scans to detect thyroid cancer and thus have to be off iodine and thyroid for a while in order for the test to be accurate. And you have to go through this to prove you are free of cancer cell if you wish to participate in research project. Hope this helps and if not, I will ask elsewhere, Thanks, Michele > > Hi Michele, > I see that you have posted this twice, I don't know that anyone knows. What exactly is this scan? Guest guest
I wonder if you have any professional level, scientific material you can refer me to on the benefit of Iodoral 50mg for those of us with thyroid cancer? My alternative medicine MD is giving me a hard time about taking more than 12.5 and so I need to find something to help him " see the light " ! It may be a lost cause but I'm not ready to give up just yet. One of the reasons I am willing to go through RAI scans is that I can't qualify for participation any kind of NIH trials for the HPTH replacement hormone without documentation of being cancer free. It's the lesser of two really nasty evils. Thanks again, MIchele > > > > Hi Michele, > > I see that you have posted this twice, I don't know that anyone knows. What exactly is this scan? Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions. As far as the Tg, yes they are all neg. so I am thankful. I skipped the scan last year so this will be my first one past surgery and it is just a little more peace of mind kind of confirmation. It is just a low dose whole body scan but I do have to go onto the low iodine diet and off the Iodoral, while using Thyrogen injections. I will be very interested in whatever you produce after you are finished with school! It's much needed! and Thanks always!! Guest guest
Oh dear, oh dear! When you put it that way, I had to think twice about it again! I actually am not in a study but if I wish to be in a study for hypo-parathyroid replacement hormone, I have to prove thyroid cancer free for 5 years. Can I do that with just a negative Tg? I " m not certain about that. What do you think? I would LOVE to not go through the scan because I really and truly do not want to go through the process of going off the Iodoral and a low iodine diet for for 3+ weeks. So I have a few weeks to figure this out and decide what to do. I am open to your input because I know that it is based on much thought and care for those of us dealing with this issue. Thanks for sharing your background and story too! Michele > > > > > > > > Hi Michele, > > > > I see that you have posted this twice, I don't know that anyone knows. What exactly is this scan?
