I just approved this post and it was from yesterday - waiting in the queue for approval so whatever happened is already done.

Buist, ND

my 2 yr old just drank my iodine!

My 2 yr old just drank almost half of my 2 oz bottle of iodine! It is Life-flo brand and has 150 mcg per three drops. Is this going to hurt her? What should I do? Can I expect any side effects? Any help would be most appreciated!

Iodine poisoning

URL of this page: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002658.htm

Iodine is a naturally occuring chemical. Small amounts are needed for good health. However, large doses can cause harm. Children are especially sensitive to the effects of iodine.

NOTE: Iodine is found in certain foods. However, there is normally not enough iodine in foods to harm the body. This article focusses on poisoning from exposure to non-food items that contain iodine.

This is for information only and not for use in the treatment or management of an actual poison exposure. If you have an exposure, you should call your local emergency number (such as 911) or the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222."
