Guest guest
Mothers that are breast feeding can safely take 12.5 mgs / day. The breast concentrates iodine so they will get what they need. I take all 100 mgs at breakfast. I do fine. You do not want to take it after 2 pm in the afternoon or you may be up at night and unable to sleep. Dr. Brownstein is recommending 12 - 25 mgs / day for protection from radiation if that is why you are taking it. Buist, ND *Iodine use* Is it better to take all the iodine at once (lugol's) or can it be broken into several times a day? Should we start now to get used to the higher levels and build up gradually? also---for babies of breastfeeding mothers--should they get as much extra as other babies? Thanks much! Guest guest
Do you mean the babies are getting enough?-- I am talking about radiation protection. Do both the babies and mothers have to take it? Does the mother take the same as other adults? Should we start taking it now? thanks much From: ladybugsandbees <ladybugsandbees@...>Subject: Re: *Iodine use*iodine Date: Tuesday, March 15, 2011, 7:59 PM Mothers that are breast feeding can safely take 12.5 mgs / day. Guest guest
The issue with mothers that are nursing is that they may release bromide if they have not taken iodine before. Bromide is toxic to babies so you don't want to release it into the milk. So the 12.5 mgs was determined by the iodine docs to be safe and not push too much bromide. There are ways of testing serum to see how much is released but few doctors would do this. If you want to add iodine to the baby's intake I have seen recommendations of 1/2 drop of Lugol's 5% for the baby. Place a drop in water - mix up and dispose of 1/2. We are in odd times where the water has not been chartered. I can't give you specifics. The goal is to saturate the gland. Maybe one of the CDC documents has recommended levels for babies. I am fighting fires on many fronts right now. ? Buist, ND *Iodine use* Is it better to take all the iodine at once (lugol's) or can it be broken into several times a day? Guest guest
I too am wondering about breastfeeding and iodine. I did my loading test and came back at 37% percent spilled. Before I had those results, I started taking 12.5mg Iodoral 1x daily at dinner. I am also taking the ATP Co-factors (1 tablet, 2x per day). I took 12.5mg for 1 week, then increased it by adding 6.25mg before breakfast. I was at this dose for one week. Today, I increased the dose again so I will be at 12.5mg, 2x per day. But after reading this thread, I'm wondering if this is a bad idea??? Any input? Thanks, Jody > > > From: ladybugsandbees <ladybugsandbees@...> > Subject: Re: *Iodine use* > iodine > Date: Tuesday, March 15, 2011, 7:59 PM > > > > Mothers that are breast feeding can safely take 12.5 mgs / day. Guest guest
The iodine docs are recommending 12.5/day for people who haven't been on the iodine protocol before pregnancy.AnneOn Apr 1, 2011, at 12:51 PM, jodylumley wrote: I too am wondering about breastfeeding and iodine.
