Guest guest
I only had the throat swelling for a few days, as nearly as I can remember. I think some people have it a bit longer. But it tends to pass fairly quickly. (Stopping iodine altogether will not help the swelling to subside, though. Your thyroid is hungry.)It is generally not recommended to take iodine without the companion nutrients, as the nutrients protect you from the detox symptoms. Without them, you will tend to get symptoms quite quickly. This could be what is going on with you.I do not have the expertise of some list members, but I would be inclined to rub Lugol's on the neck at bedtime every night, but reduce my oral dose till the companion nutrients arrive. (I don't think I would quit the oral altogether, to avoid teasing the thyroid. But if the detox gets worse, you may have to.)In the meantime, can you try a detox bath with epsom salts & hydrogen peroxide, to try to draw some of the toxins? You need to do everything you can to get rid of the toxins without stirring up more.AnneOn Apr 10, 2011, at 7:58 AM, wrote: Good Morning Everyone! First post here; new to group. I recently started iodine supplementation, using J. Crows Lugol 2%. I started out with two drops in water, then up to 4 drops in water. Recently I started doing 4 drops in water twice a day. I have also been experiencing what feels like minor swelling in my thyroid region of my neck. (Let's just say, I know it's there!) My question: how long do these side effects last? I did order Vitamin C, ATP Factors,Selenium etc. to aid me with this, but haven't received them yet. I did have HYPOthyroid symptoms late last year, where my TSH went as high as 6, but was then down to 2 a couple of months later (which I know is not optimal, but better). I was tested but the endo said that since my symptoms were resolving they were not putting me on meds, and looking back, I am glad for this. Any advice? Thank You. Guest guest
Thanks for letting me know...that's what I figured, but I wanted to check with others as to the side effect. I got some of my companion nutrients today and am going to start supplementing. I will be resuming supplemntation tomorrow (after being off for 48 hours). I will post my detox symptoms and length of as time goes on, in order to help other newbies. > > > Good Morning Everyone! > > First post here; new to group. Guest guest
I'm curious about your dosage. You're saying that 8 drops is 25mg. I was advised to take 26 drops to equal just over 50mg (this is also the 2%). I dosed up slowly, starting with Iodoral, 12.5mg tabs, but due to the Lugol's (also J.Crow) being more economical, I switched. I, personally, didn't experience much in the way of detox symptoms, other than an occasional pimple on my shoulders, chest or face, though these are not the standard teenage type, but rather, a type that shows up very unexpectedly and already with " a head " , ready to drain, and then there's no evidence of the blemish within the hour. I continue to get these blemishes even after a year on iodine at this higher dose. ---I recently started iodine supplementation, using J. Crows Lugol 2%. Guest guest
Actually, if you go to the J. Crow Lugol's website, they have a blurb about dosage. 12.5 mg of iodine is 2 drops of the Lugol's 5%, so they say that Lugol's 2% is about 1/2 the strength of that (thus you would need approx. double the amount; 4 drops). I understand that if you do the calculations that the dosage is probably closer to 5 drops of 2% Lugols being equal to about 12.5 mg iodine than 4 drops, but I erred to the lesser amount. So even at 5 drops of Lugol's 2% being equal to approx. 12.5 mg iodine, you would still only need 20 drops a day to equal 50mg (or 16 drops, if you are me). I'm sure the extra drops you are taking aren't hurting you, especially if you have a health issue. Just realize (according to J. Crow's site, anyhow) that your dosage level might be closer to 65-70 mg. of iodine a day, according to my calculations, based on your 26 drops a day. As far as your symptoms vs. mine: this is my very first time supplementing with iodine and from what I have read and heard, everyone has a different level of detox and different symptoms. Good luck to you, it seems you got off easy with the symptoms! > > I'm curious about your dosage. You're saying that 8 drops is 25mg.
