Guest guest
I don't think anybody answered because there isn't a very clear answer. The amount of thyroid medication a person is on doesn't affect iodine dosing recommendations. (Some people need less thyroid medication once they are on iodine, & some can get it off it altogether, eventually. But it is not really a factor in how to dose when you are starting out.)I would advise this person to start low & work up gradually, just like anybody else. I would recommend that she paint her breasts with iodine as well as taking it internally. And then I would tell her to watch for signs that she can reduce her thyroid medication. (Not everybody can.)Most of us are dosing by the seat of our pants -- experimenting till we find a dose that feels right. That applies to people with obvious & specific issues, like cysts in the breast, as much as to anybody else. The trick is to find a dose that helps you feel better, without getting so high that major detox occurs. Very sick folks with cancer often take 200-300mg, so most of us need less than that. Standard maintenance dose is in the 12-50 mg range, depending on which expert you read & when he posted the recommendation. (The recommendations have been moving toward the higher end of that range.) So she probably wants to work her way up to more than 50. Other than that, a person just has to pay attention to how she feels.AnneOn Apr 11, 2011, at 1:14 PM, ido zahavi wrote: can someone help. what is the recomended dose of iodine for a woman using thyroid medication and HC for cysts in the breast.
