Guest guest
Well, for what it's worth, a lot of the alternative docs are using various kinds of chelation/detox to try to cure conditions like MS & ALS...I don't know what to tell you. I can imagine it is a bit scary, & you would like it to stop. But there are a lot of stories about healing crisis & Herxheimer & detox reactions...I wouldn't know what to do, either.AnneOn Apr 1, 2011, at 1:14 PM, banana_peelerr wrote: Greetings, Has anyone had any experience with muscle weakness (numbness) in the initial stages of Iodine supplementation? I started very low dose with the intention of doubling every month, (I have had some hyperthyroid symptoms in the past and want to proceed cautiously), so with just one 225 mcg kelp tablet, the symptoms appear. They weakness is only on the right side...can be the calf or thigh or arm or both. It actually seems to float sometimes in the arm, sometimes the leg. I have run many days of experiments. Take the iodine and the symptoms appear. Stop taking it and they go away. I switched over to a supplement with iodine 5 mg as molecular, 5 mg as sodium iodide, and 2.5 mg as potassium iodide thinking kelp contaminants might have something to do with it but the exact same symptoms appear. (I split the 12.5 mg capsule into small doses, around 600mcg each). I wonder about some kind of mercury chelation or other heavy metal triggered by the iodine- not that iodine would do this directly. I've also thought that a neurological condition might possibly be aggravated by iodine, MS, ALS? Any thoughts about this are much appreciated. Guest guest
Consider adrenal fatigue which can have numbness associated with it. Best that you do a web search to check that out for yourself. If the adrenals are sluggish when starting the iodine protocol then detox and/or increased thyroid activity can tax them even further. You did not indicate if you are on the complete iodine protocol or if you are just taking iodine...? If not on the complete protocol then please know that it is essential that the supporting nutrients are included. Even the daily intake of unrefined salt. If you are taking the supporting nutrients ... did you try salt loading when the numbness symptoms appeared? If you already tried that then perhaps increasing Vitamin C to as much as you can tolerate. Vitamin C requirements are individual so it is important to not get caught up in thinking that a certain amount " should " be enough. The body uses a lot of Vitamin C and it is most concentrated in the adrenal glands. Unrefined salt and Vitamin C are the biggest supporters of adrenals in the iodine protocol. If increasing one or both of these does not help with your symptoms perhaps salivary cortisol testing would be helpful if you suspect over-burdened adrenal glands. The other thought is a greater need for magnesium, but that's another story. All of that said, do you have other symptoms that are indicative of a neurological condition? What are your health issues when not taking the iodine protocol? > > > Greetings, > > > > Has anyone had any experience with muscle weakness (numbness) in the initial stages of Iodine supplementation? > > > > I started very low dose with the intention of doubling every month, (I have had some hyperthyroid symptoms in the past and want to proceed cautiously), so with just one 225 mcg kelp tablet, the symptoms appear. > > > > They weakness is only on the right side...can be the calf or thigh or arm or both.
