Guest guest
I would just like to get an education on iodine without having to finger through all these posts. Seems like I will have too educate myself. I have been told by many people to come here, and I must say I am flustered not getting any help. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, If it were me, I would go by how I feel. Some find they can lower their thyroid meds after awhile on iodine, but certainly not everyone. The bests tests to have run for thyroid function are FreeT3 and FreeT4. TSH is worthless for thyroid information. However, if your doctor insists on running TSH too, remember that when taking iodine, in the beginning months, TSH can elevate, but it is of no concern or consequence. Best, Kathleen iodine and thyroid meds I have been on medication for hypothyroidism for 11 years. Currently, I take 2 grains of Armour daily.I am currently working my way up to 50 mg of iodine (plus supplements) daily. What do I need to do about my Armour? Should I get my thyroid tests done more frequently to see if I need a lower dose? What tests do I need and what will they show my doctor? I'm not "scheduled" for my next tests until December, but I'm hoping the iodine will change things before then.Cheryl

Guest guest
Hi Anne, If you read the Questions and Answer section in the files you will read: 14. My TSH went up on Iodine. " This is a common occurrence when a person starts to take iodine after being deficient. The body increases TSH to stimulate production of thyroglobulin which is used to bind to the iodine in thyroid hormone production. Individuals can have TSH levels as high as 75 for up to 6 months without clinical signs of hypothyroidism. The best values to check with labs if there is a concern, are the FreeT3 and FreeT4. You will find in most cases that the 'frees' are nicely within the ranges." Kathleen iodine and thyroid meds I have been on medication for hypothyroidism for 11 years.
