Guest guest
I believe I've seen references on the board that TSH can reach 75 for a period of time, etc. etc., but my TSH on last test was 4.685 in a range of .55 - 4.78. Units is uIU/mL. Where's the disconnect? Also, ferritin was 52.4 in a range of 10.0-291. Obviously low but I don't know how to get it up. Lastly, Free T3/rT3 were 9.28 with a goal of being over 20. Is this a liver thing or something different (rT3 by itself was 237 pg/mL in a range of 90-350.
Guest guest
I remember reading somewhere that most labs have their own reference ranges because the reference range is made up of an average of the people they are testing, so since no one lab is testing all the same people there is some slight difference in what they would consider to be "average". Also some labs might use a different measurement for some tests (nnmol, ppm, etc) so the figures can be quite different depending on the exact measurement (think centimetres compared to inches, or fahrenheit/centigrade) which is why it is important to include the reference range too, in case your local lab is using a completely different measure to the one most labs use. It isn't standardised at all!Good news about your local hospital's attitude to thyroid, though. From: janchester41 <janchester41@...> ..So I wonder, is it all down to which lab is used? Do labs vary with reference ranges throughout the country?
