Guest guest
I guess I would qualify for this one, since I work there. Personally, I think it's a wonderful program. They have quite a bit to offer. The pre-school classes are integrated. I believe the ratio is 6:6. There isn't a bad teacher in the bunch. Noah did not qualify because he lives in live in Cuyahoga County and the Spec Ed services are taxpayer supported. You have to be a Lake County resident to qualify. The program is then offered without charge. The school age classes are not integrated, and depending on the age and needs of the child, he may or may not be a good fit. It all depends on what you are looking for. Some parents prefer an inclusive program in a public school setting, while others prefer a more segregated learning environment. Individualized service include PT, OT, ST, Phys Ed. T.E.A.C.H.E and anything mandated according to the IEP. There is a full-time and a part-time Nurse on site. The LEEP program (I think it stands for Lake Education Employment Program) is for older students and involves community job training. This also includes students who are either in, or have graduated from local high schools, up to age 22. We also house several other programs including Early Intervention (Help Me Grow), a pre-school class run by the county, a daycare and a latchkey program. There is a new program that is associated with a program started over in Prague that concentrates on intensive PT for more physically involved children. I forget the name that they go by...sorry. We have a basketball team (middle school age and up) and cheerleaders, and we play various surrounding schools. We also have a Homecoming dance and Prom. If you decide to come check it out, look me up. I am in the the " Sensory Room " . Our kids are all medically fragile, non-mobile and non-verbal...and the best bunch of kids you would ever want to meet!!!...of course, I'm biased!!! There are two Trish's there... I'm Paolucci. In answer to your second question, there are few similarities between Broadmoor and Billiart. JB is definitely designed to serve children with learning disabilities and is modeled much more in accordance to a Parochial school setting. If your child is older and is high functioning, this might be a better choice. If he has more attention issues and /or requires more intensive services possibly including a behavioral plan, Broadmoor might be a more appropriate. I would just suggest that you check all of your options out and carefully weigh the pros and cons. If you have any questions, you can call them a call at 440-602-1000. You can set up a tour. I hope this helps, some! Take Care, -Trish --- In , " starfish1995 " <starfish1995@...> wrote: > > Can anyone here comment on the Broadmoor School? Guest guest
Trish, Thanks so much for all this info! Is this true for the whole student population that Boadmoor serves: Our kids are all medically fragile, non-mobile and non-verbal...and the best bunch of kids you would ever want to meet!!!... If so it would not be an appropriate fit for my son. But I was not suer if you were speaking of just a segment of the posulation of kids? Thanks, Beth > > > > Can anyone here comment on the Broadmoor School? What type of > children > > are best suited for the school? Guest guest
No,no, no!!!!These are just the kids in MY class. Sorry that I wasn't clear on that. There ARE some other kids who are in wheel chairs, but most of these kis are blended into the other classes. The reason our kids are separated is because all are tube fed, many have trachs and a few carry oxygen. Those with trachs and O2 have privte duty nurses. I only mentioned the " Sensory " class so that you would know where to find me, should you come for a tour. I also forgot to mention that we have a pool, and the kids swim once a week. I would encourage you to come check us out. It never hurts to explore all of your options. Oh yes, we also have a great parent's group!
