Guest guest
My step mom just was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism. Here are her symptoms. I am unsure of the treatment for it as compared with Hypothyroidism, although I knew she needed iodine, and is actually embracing the idea, as she is into healing naturally. Thank you, Ali : Thanks for the link, I will check it out. I have looked at several sites relating hyperthyroidism to iodine, some reckon that taking iodine only temporarily reduces thyroid output, then it goes up again as it has plenty of iodine to go at, others think it is better not to take any iodine (mostly western medicine), and others say you have to carefully balance the dose so as to maintain a normal thyroid output, which makes most sense to me. I do not think much of the endocrinologist I got referred to, he has one treatment - these pills I have been out on to slow down the thyroid output. I bought some iodine supplement in the form of potassium iodide, which I can get much cheaper from a laboratory supplies company if I decide to take it regularly. It seemed to help. Basically, we were probably not iodine deficient until we moved here last May, because when we were in the apartment we ate salmon and other fish about 3 times a week. Here we eat less of it as we all eat together and our friend is not big on fish. My symptoms came on relatively suddenly and at first I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something like the cats or mould spores or something. I got these attacks about a month before Christmas and they were infrequent, but when I lay down to sleep I had difficulty breathing and it felt like my lungs were filling with water, and I had to get up and stand outside for a bit. When I went to see my doctor about it she had Bob drive me straight to emergency. She had asked me to get some blood tests earlier in the week and they came back very high for T4 and T3, apparently this is a common cause of atrial fibrillation, which causes the water in the lungs as the blood is not being pumped around properly. They could not give me the zap treatment to reset the heartbeat as I had been too long in that fibrillation condition, and until my blood pressure and pulse rate are brought back to normal the zapping won't stick. They have me on blood thinners, blood pressure lowering pills, heart slowing down pills and thyroid slowing down pills. This does not sit well with me, so I want to be rid of the chemicals ASAP.
