Guest guest
Hello, I've been taking iodine for around 4 weeks now and haven't noticed any unusual symptoms or side effects. I'm currently on a 12.5 mg iodoral tab daily having built up over a period of about 4 weeks. My last blood test back in March however showed that my TSH levels went down from 0.01 to <0.01 (UK normal range 0.2 - 4); my T4 went up from 14.3 in the Feb blood test to 17.5 in March (still in the normal range); and the T3 went up from 5.6 to 8.5+ (normal UK range 3.5-6.5), which suggests that I'm more hyperT in March than I was in Feb - though I don't feel any worse. When I had the March blood tests done I had been on lugol's for around 2 weeks, approx 4 mg daily, so I'm wondering whether the iodine is likely to have affected my blood levels, and/or whether this is to expected before they resume to normal levels, or whether I ought to stop the iodine. Any advice from people's experiences would be helpful. I feel fine physically apart from a little tightness around my thyroid which is worse this evening for some reason. As I feel quite healthy I'm really reluctant to stop the iodine, even though the doc has told me to stop all my supplements prior to going to see a specialist. For the last 3 months I thought I had a classic hyperT symptom as every night while in bed I had heart palpitations. However, I stopped my Vit B 100 tabs a few weeks ago(which I'd been on daily for a year) and within 2 days my palpitations improved by around 70%. I have been messing around with all kinds of supplements, magnesium, potassium etc, so I'm wondering whether any other minerals can have an effect on thyroid blood levels. Oh yes, my electrolyte and calcium blood levels came back normal even though a hair mineral analysis test said there was excess calcium in my hair and zero potassium, which was indicative of hypoT and a digestive problem. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Meadowsweet Thyroid Nodules (suspected hyperT) 1 year (suspected colitis 12 years)
