We are definitely interested as well...we attend one at our son's school and it is wonderful to get together with the other parents there, and it is a smaller group. However it is moderated-which is good for that purpose! But it would be nice to just grab a cup of coffee and talk about whatever issues are going on with our children. I think that we can learn so much from others in the same boat!

What area do you live in? And if there is any interest, again, maybe we can meet in the middle somewhere.

We have a three year old. I know of one group that meets informally with parents on the west side at Panera once a month. Again, a very small group. Not advocacy but a lot of sharing of ideas, which is so helpful.

I think that no matter what, it is extremely important for us parents of exceptional children to know that we are not alone in our journeys!

Hi Jill-

Yes we'd definitely be interested in a small, informal group....

My husband and I both work full time so we'd need to meet in the evening or on a weekend.

If you want to meet sometime, just e-mail ahead and we can make plans!

Thanks so much!

Same here. We have a 4 year old with Autism. It would be nice to know we are not alone because at times I feel that we are.

Where do all of you live?

I might be interested as well. I have a 5 year old. My experience with support groups haven't really been too positive. Although I don't mind lending an ear, it has usually ended up with everyone complaining. Hope this doesn't come off as sounding too mean. I'm in Medina county, but would be willing to travel.AmyFrom: kulrich629@... <kulrich629@...>Subject: Re: [ ] Need a GOOD Parent Support Group Date: Friday, November 7, 2008, 4:39 PM

Hi ,

I too am looking for a support group that is not moderated, but let's us talk amongst ourselves about our ups and downs. In my experience to create one of these groups, however, two things play a factor, the age of your child and where you live.

My daughter is 14 and is high functioning and I live in Richmond Hts. (on the east side). It seems very difficult to get an east side group sided, and to get a group that includes older children. I would be very intested to see what responses you get.

If possible, I would like to create a group.

Hi there---My husband and I are looking for a good parent support group for families and children with austim....Not necessarily a group that advocates a certain philosophy-- -just a group of parents in "the same shoes" as us who can relate to all we go through.Any information would be much appreciated! ************ **AOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs. Hello,

I am a special education teacher, and I use this site

for one of my parent's who does not have quick access

to internet, so I relay info to her. I know she would

be very interested in a parent support group, she has

expressed to me she would like nothing more than to

just talk to other parents. She lives in Vermillion,

which is more west, but I am sure she would drive a

little bit to a meeting place. Please keep us

informed!

I too am looking for a support group. Have a 12 year old Asperger boy. We live in Columbia Station, which is southwest of Cleveland in Lorain county. With all of the shopping centers close to I480 and I90, we should be able to find something. Perhaps we could meet at a place like Panera's or Applebee's (or similiar family restuarant). I know it depends on age of children and whether or not the children would be coming with us.

I would like to meet with parents first few sessions and then bring children to meet each other if this works for others. Even if we just met in person once, we could do it like a networking for business. Where you meet, have some type of organization with introductions and then exchange addresses. Networking is very helpful, and then you can continue to stay in touch with those who have similar situations for your situation. Sometimes it is easier to communicate from our one home, from our own computer with our situations. Then we could network again every other month.

I would be willing to help in finding a spot to network and places maybe more accomodating to us if we use the term networking group than support group.

The parent I am posting on behalf of ,who is

interested in a support group, has a 10 year old son

with cerebral palsy and Autism on the severe end of

the spectrum. She is more interested in speaking to

parents without the presence of her son more like a

social gathering to share stories and networks. I dont

think taking him a long would be practical for her, as

he has very high needs and behaviors. Please keep me

posted, it's a great idea:)

I too am very much interested in a casual " sit around and chat " sort

of group. The other groups I have been to have been great but they

tend to involve speakers (which I find very useful!) and are more

formal. While I am in Shaker Heights, I would be willing to drive a

distance. How about somewhere in the middle like Broadsview,

Brescksville, or Independence? Personally, I don't mind if the other

parents have children of a difference age than mine (age 4) as I

think we all share some similar issues.

I would also be willing to meet with just a couple of people on the

east side, if there are people out there that would prefer not to

drive a long distance. Just email me off list...

There are many informal parent groups around that meet for coffee or

once in a while for dinner (it's usually just the moms). It usually

falls on one person to make the plans and send out the emails.

I would be willing to meet somewhere in Lorain county (e.g., Elyria)

for those that live in that area. It has always been my impression

that Lorain county has fewer parent supports than Cuyahoga county.

With that said, the Autism Society meets in Avon Lake once a month on

the second Tuesday of each month at the Avon Lake library; however,

this group is facilitated and often has speakers.

For those of you in Lorain county that just want to get together for a

bite to eat, please email me (ddzlaw@...). I will try to get

something coordinated.

Thanks.

Hi - I live in University Heights. I have a 21 year old daughter and 11

year old son that are both HFA. Unfortunately, with my insane schedule

I would only be available on Wednesday evenings, hopefully somewhere on

the east side. Would like to get together formally/informally with some

of the parents, and eventually with the kids as well.
