Guest guest
Hello my name is Tracey my son is 8yrs old and has autism, and I do not know much about ABA Thearapy, I have been having some OBC with my son & just alot of behavioral issues, they just came out of no where, the past three months have been very difficult, my husbands work schedule changed alot, and it seems like that was the starting point with the behavoir issues when my husbands schedule changed, can that have a big impact on behavior with my son? Would you have any suggestions? My son tends to listen & respond better to my husband when he is melting down or having some OBC, but is very different with me & my son gives me a very hard time. I think all shildren in general have always tended to listen to Dad better! Thanks for any advice - Tracey We paid our tutors based on their EXPERIENCE-- so not all tutors made the same amount. Some tutors have a starting rate....We gave dollar raises after a specified time period if they were doing an exceptional job.The easiest way for us was to pay all tutors EVERY Friday (or if they didn't come on Friday, the last day of the week that they came)...We kept a cash box stashed at home and a ledger to keep track of all payments.lr************ **A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. Guest guest
Hi Tracey, Sudden onset of OCD behaviors can sometimes linked to exposure or infection with any strain of the streptococcus (strep) virus. Medically therefore I would ask your neurologist or family doctor to do a throat culture and blood work for strep or PANDAS (I think they would need to check a number of things like ASO, AntiDNASe, and maybe others). If your son is positive, he could be treated with antibiotics and his OCD should decrease. This is not going to happen in all cases but you would definitely want to rule strep out as much as you can! Step can cause severe neurological impairment in the form of PANDAS and needs be treated as best you can. Just google PANDAS for more info. Seeing your neurologist would be probably most helpful for this bloodwork. Sometimes blood and throat culture both can be negative but stool test maybe positive for it. In my son's case, everything was negative except a specialized stool test called Comprehensive Stool Analysis which is a test done by Great Plains Laboratory (they take selected insurances but not all). This is different from a regular hospital stool test (which is not sensitive enough in many cases). It is a special test that did pick up a strain of strep for us. I was shocked to find it, I will tell you! I never knew my son had strep although it is sometimes enough to develop OCD symptoms through only exposure to it and without developing the infection (i.e. your child may just be a carrier). The sudden onset of symptoms would definitely warrant most thorough lab testing. We are supposed to start treating with antibiotics soon. I am hoping that would be sufficient but at times it is not. It is standard though to put kids on them who have strep. Hope this helped. Behaviorally, I would probably just join your child in his passion if doable and safe. My son's big thing is piling up pillows (and other objects)- I just restrict the number of the pillows and do not allow hard toys in the pile, but I allow hi to do the piling as a break and I do join in by getting in his pile (he wants to burry me under the pillows). We do a lot of requesting as he is asking for more pillows and me, woking on verblizations and signs. Others with more of an ABA approach will however tell you to interrupt him I am sure! I have been there, done that but so did not work for us!! Best of luck, Tracey...let us know how it goes. > > > > > > > > We paid our tutors based on their EXPERIENCE-- so not all tutors made the same amount. Guest guest
Correction: strep is a bacteria. Sorry. This is why it can respond well to antibitics. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > We paid our tutors based on their EXPERIENCE-- so not all tutors made the same amount. Guest guest
Thanks - For your response, any help is greatly appreciated, I never new something as common as strep can bring on OCD in children with autism and if diagnosed with a type of strep, once treated with antibiotics the OCD should subside, great imformation, I will look into having my son checked for that! Guest guest
My son is 7 and has the PANDAS OCD. He has had it for awhile and is now becoming more Aspergers in his behaviors the longer he has the strep PANDAS. I can't seem to get rid of the antibodies that are launching the attack on his brain. Since this is an OH forum maybe someone here could help with finding Dr's. This has been a nightmare because none of them seem to know what to do since the research is so limited and contradicting. He is on daily antibiotics and goes to OT and takes fish oils and probiotics. But the longer this goes the harder it is to calm him. He gets so worked up about what he wants and tantrums and won't let things go. Any suggestions. We tried therapy but it is hard to get a kid at 7 to understand he has to wait for things he wants instantly. We did 123 magic and behavior charts with rewards. It seems the rewards just feed into his fascination with buying things. He looks for things and talks about them constantly until he gets them and then moves to something else he wants just as bad. Socially he has a hard time playing and going along with others ways since he wants things his way. He argues alot. I was wondering who I could take him to? We have seen psychiatrists, psycholoist, neurologists and immunologist, family Dr's. I am not sure where to turn next. I guess we will have to go out of state since OH Dr's don't seem to want to treat PANDAS OCD. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > We paid our tutors based on their EXPERIENCE-- so not all tutors made the same amount. Guest guest
We have Anthem Blue it is a PPO. Dr, doesn't take insurance so I think they will pay nothing for out of network. I hear she is good for PANDAS. I have been through Abdulah, Enlow, Congeni, Erenberg, , Berger, Berchin, , and Witznitzer. I have phone consults with Gilbert and Leckman, and Dr. Kovosovic, visited in Florida and saw Demio and did the GF, CF for six months and supplements and amino acids. None of them have any knowledge or desie to treat PANDAS. I had to bring all the articles and beg for the antibiotis which they were not willing to try. Only our ped would do the Omnicef longterm. Dr. k say to try steroid burst and then IVIG but I can't find anyone local to do it. Demio does not take insurance because he may do it if I beg. Others with PANDAS say Azith works best but I have not goten anyone yet to try it. Enlow would do Pen VK only. Berger gave us Omnicef first then left the hopital. i have been turned down by at least four Dr's noy wanting to take PANDAS.Dr, Latimer and Kovosovick seem to be the only ones willing to stick ut their necks and help these kids. They are both out of state. Have you seen anyone locally for this? What help did they give? Why is OH so afraid to treat with IVIG? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > We paid our tutors based on their EXPERIENCE-- so not all tutors made the same amount.
