March Movement on House Bill 8

March has been an active month for House Bill 8 (formerly HB170).  The bill will require private health insurance companies to provide coverage for autism therapies and treatments.

Parents, providers and employers attended and testified during two House Health Care Access & Affordability Committee hearings in March with a third scheduled for March 31 at 3:00 p.m. in Room 114 of the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.  Family and friends are invited to attend this hearing to show support for the bill.

A vote is expected in the near future.  Click here to ask questions.

Stay informed, take action and see sample letters by visiting www.autismvotes.org/ohio.  Call or write your legislator to tell them why passage of this bill is so important.

Rally around on April 1

Join hundreds of families, advocates, county staff, support personal and individuals with disabilities on April 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Ohio Statehouse Lawn, West Plaza (facing High Street).

Present a unified voice with HB8 Co-sponsor Ted Celeste and Autism Speaks Jay Studdard and schedule meetings to meet personally with legislators throughout the day.

Grand givers

In our February eBlast, we featured the $1,000+ Club, individual participants who raised over $1,000 for the 2008 Columbus Walk Now for Autism event.  We would now like to recognize those individuals and families who generously donated over $1,000 to the Columbus Walk.  On behalf of everyone at Autism Speaks, congratulations and thank you for your generous support!
