But you will feel better knowing everything that went on that you don't know about yet. I remember almost getting arrested in college(geez just 2 weeks before graduation),because I wanted to read my medical file at the college health clinic ,but they said I had to do it in front of a doctor, but no doctor was available to sit with me. They(nurses) were grabbing at my file and I'm yelling, " But why can't I read my own file,I don't need a doctor sitting next to me? " I got mad and stormed out(medical file in hand). The police were called and were told I had stolen property from the medical facility.I eventually went to the police station on my own later that day after doing my architecture speech(my friend begged me ),and returned the file. They said I had commited a felony theft, but let the matter drop.Guess they assumed I was under a lot of stress with graduation<g>.Seems so silly that they make such a big issue out of it(reading or having your own copy). Well I am just glad I got it today easily.Hope you get yours as well. Sara
Guest guest
Don't tell them why....I just said that I wanted a complete medical file to provide to my daughter when she moved out...this way she would know everything about her medical history. Guest guest
I had no problems getting my sons medical records from the hospital. I just faxed them a signed request and they mailed everything right to me. They said the records were no problem but if I ever needed more copied of his x-rays there would be a charge (i forget how much) - basically advising me to hang on to them. They never asked the reason I wanted them, so I assume it's none of their business. Getting them from the doctors office was a different story. They took FOREVER, even after I explained that my son was due to have surgery and the new ped should have them prior to that (they finally got around to it a month and a half post-op.... big help). The two offices were right across the street from each other and I offered several times just to pick them up.... but of course not, couldn't do that! Boy, I hate doctors! shelby Reiss wrote: > From: Reiss <lisa@...> > > Don't tell them why....I just said that I wanted a complete medical file > to provide to my daughter when she moved out...this way she would know > everything about her medical history. Guest guest
Getting copies of your child's medical records is not a bad idea. I usually get copies of all records but for some reason didn't get my son's records when he was hospitalized at 3 yrs old, which I believe was a result from a vaccine. I am now going to request his records from the hospital and the pediatrician's office (his doctor died several years ago, I am hoping that they still have his records) and compare the time frame of exactly when he got what shot and when he was hospitalized and the final diagnosis, if any. Guest guest
Yes, you should! They made me copies of them (they were smaller than the originals - they fit 2 on a sheet, maybe because there were so many) and like I said, the first set was free. You are absolutely right though, they are yours! shelby Mum2nini@... wrote: > From: Mum2nini@... > > In a message dated 10/20/99 8:51:07 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > helminger@... writes: > > << They said the > records were no problem but if I ever needed more copied of his x-rays there > would > be a charge (i forget how much) - >> > > You got the x-ray films? Guest guest
Actually let me clarify somthing on the x-ray issue. I am an x-ray tech for chiropractic The x-ray exam is done and the films are property of the office just as the rest of your file is. However you are entitled to a copy of the written records as well as the copy of the x-rays or a written report about the x-rays. You pay for the services done in the office, not the film, this means any exam including x-rays. They are part of the record the doctor has on you and you can look at them and have another office view them too. hope this helps...
